Default Narrower motor plate for Fastback II

Anyone know if there's a motor plate out there that isn't as wide as stock? I'd like to fit some body panels to my FBII build (alllllmoooost done!) but it looks like it would be a real pain in the buttocks with the plate sticking out past the motor.

It can only be so small. Either way, the motor is still going to hang out.

You can get the motor mounted up, scribe a line on the plate along the side of the can that sticks out, then tear it all down and cut it off.

If I'm understanding you I had similar issues as I'm running a smaller spur with a smaller pinion to try and tuck everything in a bit. Then I took a dremel to my plate to grind off some.

also have a FII,and have panel on the motor side,i use some plastic, that is called VERALITE,which is 0,3 0,5 0,7 thicker, and you can heat the panel and it will be shaped around the motor

I used a belt sander and notched the bottom corner. I run my motor/transmission in a more forward position than the regular drill option, so I had to get a bit more aggressive with how much material I took off.

I was going to suggest an angle grinder.

I had to do that too, though mine is flipped around and shoved towards the back.

Also, photobucket FTL.

Thanks for the replies folks - I can do basic metal work but am thinking if I try to attack the plate I may end up bending it all up. Perhaps I'll give it a shot anyway!

Heating the plastic to form around the motor is an interesting idea too. Back to the drawing board, after a few test runs last night I'm considering different motor / gearing anyway so it looks like this build is (of course) not quite as close to "done" as I had hoped

Yea, just use some kind of grinder to remove most of the material, then a file to clean it up, sandpaper the edges to finish.

For this build, the motor plate was the least of my worries!

Stock EEM plate:

This helped a bit:
