Default My 2008 2.2 comp rig

Our season started 2 days before Christmas so I had to hurry and build a new comp rig as soon as I got back from giving Zach his crawler. Got this one built in 2 days.

I am going to try to list all the parts and give a cost breakdown so people can get an idea.

Started with an Axial AX-10=$259.00
add in a Bender Customs SW3 chassis=$65.00
next I dropped in a Black R2D Tranny=$104.99
I shift the tranny with a HiTec 645mg servo=$35.99
It's geared with a 32p 12t pinion.=$3.25, I think I'll change to a 14t though.
Spinning things up is a Holmes Hobbies 10t colbalt puller.=$69.99
Controlling the motor is a Castle Creations Mamba Max=$115.00
Steering duties are handled by a JR DS 8711 403oz servo=$139.99
I hooked the servo to the drag link with a Losi aluminum servo arm=$5.99
We keep those servos turning strong with a Castle Creations BEC=$21.99
Power comes from a 11.1V 1250mah Common Sense lipo=$26.95
I control it all with the new Spektrum DX3R 3 channel radio=$319.99
Everything gets put to the ground by a set of the National Championship winning Losi Rock Claw tires=$39.98 stock foams in the rear, I trimmed 1/4 off the width of the fronts.
I added 4oz of lead to the front tires, $5.00 at the local tire shop
The shocks are Losi units, built from all these part numbers:
Edit: Losi stepped up and made this easier and cheaper on everyone, instead of buying all the parts like I did, you can now just buy one part number and have 4 complete shocks. Click here to buy the complete shock set for $58.49
LOSA5056 times 2=$39.90
LOSA5062 times 4=$28.00
LOSA5015 times 4=$8.00
LOSA5079 time 1=$4.00
LOSA6100 times 2 for spares=$2.50
LOSA5046 times 1=$3.00
LOSA2006 times 1=$4.00
They go together easier than any shock I have ever used and are super smooth.
I used Losi white springs times 2=$5.00
The left rear spring is a Traxxas Stampede grey=$2.00
The left rear shock is filled with Losi 50 weight oil=$3.50
The right rear shock is filled with Losi 30 weight oil=$3.50
The front shocks are both filled with Losi 20 weight oil=$3.50
I top it all off with the new Ultra cool Losi Grappler body=$23.74
The body is painted Faskolor Key Lime=$4.29
The inner bed was masked off and painted Faskolor Pearl Silver=$4.29
It was all then backed with Faskolor White=$4.29
I also used a set of Deans Ultra plugs to hook the esc to the battery=$3.25
On the front axle I upgraded to Aluminum C hubs from TCS Crawlers=$29.99
Those are backed up by some super strong Aluminum knuckles=$29.99
On the rear axle I locked out the rear steer using some RCP Crawlers strait axle adapters=$28.99

Grand total for the build $1409.85

From the Axial ax-10 kit I used all the links. I left the stock links just like they are made in the 3 link setup, and extended them with one of the 10mm spacers in the kit. For the lower links I used the stock Axial links and the straight Axle rod ends, trimming 24mm of each of the links gave me just under a 12.5" wheelbase.

If you look at some of the pictures you can see the R2D tranny/Colbalt puller combo are super long and just barley fit into the sw3. In fact I had to just trim a little corner of the chassis to get the tranny to sit down all the way on the skidplate.

The front and rear driveshafts are from the stock ax-10 kit. The front one had to be shortened, but the rear one is stock.

For the shifting of the R2D I was able to make a short link out of one of the pieces of link I cut off the lower suspension links

I've only put about 1 pack through the rig at our comp, but so far I am loving it and cannot wait for all this snow to melt so I can put some miles on it.

Onto the pics!

Thanks, I love the radio. It took a few minutes to figure out the menus and stuff, but now that I have it figured out it works great. Unlike the DX 3.0 the third channel works for rear steer and running an R2 tranny as well.

Very nice Jason, I especially like how you were able to fit the Cobalt in there, that is my next change on mine. Truck looks solid with the best chassis there is

Nice breakdown of parts, let's ya know what it takes! I am impressed how you get these things to hold up to your abuse, I think I may take another stab at Axial axles, maybe I got a bad set or something.

So how did you do the see thru body pic? That is ubber cool.

Nice! I love the disappearing body effect. How did you do that in the second pic? PS?

I like the fact that you lined out and provided links for all the parts too

Damn, what do you do for a living...chemist?

Take 2 identical pics, camera on a tripod, do not move the rig, 1 with the body on, 1 with the body off, then photoshop them together.

Yeah, it looks great. I can't wait to pick up my AX10 from Colquitt.

Funny how I see all these lime green color schemes. Makes me think a bit of my pic hosting website's color scheme (has been for 3+ years now). heh

How are you liking the cobalt puller?

I'm slowing switching everything I own to them, I sure am glad the MM can handle both brushed and brushless...

To be competitive they do. At least here in CO, there's no way you're going to place in the top 5 without a pretty fancy rig which translates to $$ and knowing how to drive it too.

I love the rig J.
What ground clearance are you getting with that setup and those shocks? Mine is a little low and I think those shocks are probably going to be the ticket to get it sitting right were I want it.

Ha awesome, me and brett (K2) were just talking about Jason and wondering if either of us had ever seen his personal rig.

2 days later this comes...

Well, looks dang good. Makes me want to build a new comp body'd rig.

Awesome how you linked all your parts!

Nice rig Jason.

The first post does a great job of laying it all out!

Nice photography by the way!
