Default Better turning radius ar60

I am building a 2.2 sportsman out of rigdecrest, and wondering what to do to get better turning radius. Theres lot expensive vp parts to be bought to fix this, but are there cheaper ways to get better steering angle/turning radius?

The vp chubs and knuckles have the same throw as the stock plastic,
The axial cvds will actually turn a wee bit farther than the VP vvds.
Also you can put overdrive gears in the front diff, and under drive in the rear, that'll help. Or even a dig to lock the rear, but that isn't cheap at al...

Better start with axial cvd and underdrive then.

Is the vp alu parts any lighter than stock plastic?

The vp knuckles have a huge advantage with their interchangeable steering arms so you can swap them around to suit your setup.

The universals not only turn sharper than vvd's but it's been my experience that they're stronger as well. There are several writeups on how to clearance universals for 70* steering.

I've got the axial cvd's. Huge improvement in turning radius. I also have overdrive front gearing and under drive rear, which also helps the steering and improves climbing ability as well. If all else fails I have a dig kit installed too. The dig setup isn't really all that expensive.

First of all there is no Axial CVD for the AR60 axle. it is a universal.
For maximum steering you want to run clearanced universals and over driven front under driven rear.
No Aluminium is not lighter than plastic but I think weight is the last of your concerns at the moment.

Too bad overdrive gears have craptastic mesh. Even in a dlux modded housing with an added shim to tighten the mesh there isn't enough tooth contact to keep the gears from skipping under hard load. I hate to give up the extra gearing difference but I don't think I have a choice but to go to HD front gearing.

I utilize the Axial universal's
and tho' my chubs/sknuckles are the Axial XR10 alloy hardware...
they are still the original geometry to the factory plastic.

My Wraith has plenty of steering as is.
But as was stated previously...
and if more Uni angle is desired...
trim down the universal's inner ears/corners for increased Uni angle.

and if even more steering control is wanted...

then taller gearing in the front axle
and shorter gearing in the rear axle
will improve the steering.
(taller tires up front and shorter in the rear will offer similar results)

Firmer foam inserts inside the tires will also improve steering
by not allowing the tire's sidewall to roll (fold over).

Not sure about utilizing VP hardware...
because I'm not spending my coin to play.

Be sure you have a servo that is strong enough
to turn the 2.2 wheels/tires.
Servo's used that are under 400 oz/in of torque
garner none of my attention.

And upgrade the plastic steering links to metal links
and lose the flexy factory plastic junk.

Be sure the servo horn is alloy as well.
Any flex of these components may decrease your steering force/throw.
Regardless as to how much torque your servo supplies.

I'd even suggest getting an upgraded transmitter
that has improved steering adjustment/controls.

picture of my Wraith converted to an 1/6 scale TJ

^ didn't find a picture representing full steer lock
but I'll keep looking and replace the picture above if I find one.

this one looks closer to full lock, tho' maybe still not at max

Hi, I run the VP Stage one kit for the Wraith in my ( well was) Ridgecrest, also with Axial uni's in the front, and a underdrive in the rear and I love it, I also have Blue Monkey's steering links, Good Luck and do post whatever you do!!!

I've ordered underdrive gears for the rear and axial uni's.
