Default Bomber brushless system?

Hi all, I知 new to the forum and rc crawling. Did full scale rock crawling for about 20 years and sold crawler about 3 years ago. My wife and I got into 1/10 scale about 2 months ago. We are really enjoying it. I currently have a TRX4 SPORT and she has a SCX10.2. Both have some mods and Castle brushless systems. I知 looking into getting a Bomber in the future. I値l be primarily crawling with it but will be doing some higher speeds and bashing. I called Castle Creations after reading every option on their site, but still wasn稚 sure what system to go with. The tech I talked to recommended their Mamba X sct 1410-3800. But the weight really doesn稚 seem to be right according to their site. He said it would be fine. I was also considering the Mamba X crawler edition 1410-3800. I will be staying with Castle Creations because I already have the software and software components. Just curious to see what you guys with much more experience are running from Castle and suggestions you may have for what I知 looking to do with my future Bomber. Thanks much, Phillip.

Get a 1/8th system,

The MMX, and the 2650kv 42mm motor will give you so much awesome. You can use 2s for crawling, and 4s for fast stuff.

It is the most expensive option. But that's what I run, and I love it.

Love my Castle Creations ESC always. But if you want something budget but still high in performance and reliable ESC and brushless motor, then you might take a look for these.

Thanks for quick replies guys. I will stick with Castle. I have the mamba X crawler edition in my TRX4 SPORT and the mamba micro in my wife’s SCX10.2. with 10amp bec. Love them both. Was looking at getting a SCX10.2 kit for myself buy think I’ll go with the Bomber kit for something different but mainly crawl with it. And yes I was looking at the 1/8 scale stuff but thought it might be overkill.

It is overkill. But that is never a bad thing for high end rcs. It means you will never over heat, and never stress the electronics. You will however stress the driveline so you will have to upgrade that, mainly need higher strength universals (the axle ones are good) and metal drive shafts. All part of the fun

I have the Mamba X with the 2850kv slate motor in my Bomber and I'm happy with it. I run on 3S and I couldn't imagine having a 3800 in there. If I only ran on 2S then the 3800 might be an option. On 3S I also find that the 2850 slate motor has plenty of torque, but I also don't tend to power my way out of binds like some people do.

If I were to do it again (and technically, I am with my Yeti), I'd go with the same Mamba X speed control, but I'd pick a sensored 1/8 scale type motor instead. For my Yeti I went with a Hobbystar 3660-sized sensored motor. The larger motor should give more torque than the Castle, but I still get all of the great benefits of the Mamba X ESC. Depending on how I like that setup, I could see a 40mm motor finding its way into my Bomber next time I take the cage off.

I would recommend a 1410 motor for the bomber if you are going to rock race it around. The slate and the 1406 motors are noticeably weak in a bigger 2.2 rig. Alternatively, a mamba X and Puller Pro 540. It will be a lighter system with better startup as compared to the 1410, but have the same power. I've done much to refine my Puller Pro motors to put down big power and retain industry best startup and torque at low RPM.

I am running a Monster X and 1410-3800Kv in my RR10.

Axial 2-speed, stock ratio axle gears, 16/64 spur/pinion. Tall tires (flat iron XL). Low range tops out at 11.5 mph. High gear is 19.6 mph (measured via GPS).

Customize the throttle curve and it crawls with great control, even with the cheap RTR Tx/Rx.

Mamba X with HH Trailmaster Pro 3300, stock gearing on 3s. Works great for me all around!

I have a Mamba X on the way, and plan to go with the 540 Standard 3500 as soon as they become available again.

Will start with stock 12/64 gearing and go up or down depending on how I want it to run, or the temps. Have an 11T, and 13T pinion left over from my Slash build.

Wow, thanks guys for all the great insite. Not used to guys being so positive on some forums, like Pirate where it seems everyone knows everything and your a idiot for asking advice. Thanks again. I will be joining with the 20 $ fee to post pics and see classifieds, for maybe a good deal on a Bomber there.

I see a lot of guys recommending and running the HH puller pro with mamba x, I’ll definitely look into that. Thanks HH

The Holmes Hobbies PULLER PRO R 540-L ROCK CRAWLER MOTOR is limited edition I think and unlike the puller xl the L-rock can also crawl. I been eying it but I don't know, I never feel the need to bash around or go that fast.

Edit, I suppose I should have stated this less definatly since I don't have one, I just read about the controlled startup on its home page and assumed :(

The 540L is very specifically for rock racers. although it retains the controlled startup, the high kv doesn't always play nicely with ESCs. The 3500 or 2700 standard is a far better choice for just trailing and crawling.

I finally got a Bomber my self. I put a MambaX and H.H. Pulled Pro 2700 kv motor in it. I like it a lot. I'll like it even better when I can fit my3s batteries.in it.
