I don't know dude, that looks pretty good to me. And I'm always surprised how much better something like this looks once it's cleaned up and painted.

I've been staring at a Hi-Lux cab for about a month now. I've been thinking exo-skeleton and flatbed rear, but I can't think of how to test-build anything for mock-up purposes. Other than actually brazing brake line and hoping for the best. I don't want to braze up a bunch of stuff only to have it not fit right or not like how it looks.

Maybe you're right - paying someone who's done a bunch of work like this is probably the way to go...

Straws or those fuzzy pipe cleaner things we had in elementary school work well. The pipe cleaners work pretty good because the metal will hold form.

The fuzzy pipe cleaners work good like mentioned, or you can build it out of styrene rod, which is cheap and easy to bend and bond and it will look exactly like the steel tube will look.

I think the flatbed Yota looks great. I hope to have a scale Yota one day myself. I don't care how many people have them I want one.

Ok... Got the chassis all painted & together to roller form.

I wanted to have inboard shocks on this but the shocks hit the chassis rails on articulation so I just made the rear of the chassis wider (like a bruiser chassis — actually more scale this way) then I made a delrin crossmember for the rear shock mount & a simple aluminum bracket.

You can see everything but the front bumper is brazed directly to the original chassis. I was quite a process to do. I would have the roller together & would line up the tube work then take it apart. Braze some tube on the chassis. Put it back together and start the process again. I think I disassembled & reassembled this thing at least 20 time. But I think it was worth it.

You can see the front bumper fits the winch well. We'll see what kind of a beating it takes.

I'm REALY digging this build & have become quite attached to this damn toy.

Oh BTW... I used a combination of both steel tube & solid rod on this construction. Trying to keep & both strong & light. A little something of everything.

On to the pics.
