Default Re: "Prodigal JK"-Project-Updated Cage 4/16

Update...finally! I have the cage completed with spare tire mount. Now I just need to finish up the rear bumper and tube fenders. The tricky part has been that I want to make the entire cage removable...which would include the bumpers (this is the tricky part). I have it figured out in my head so now I just need to see if I can build what I can envision. I ended up changing the way the front tube fender hits the bumper. Instead of attaching directly to the bumper it hits the grille guard where it should have in the first place.
*TIP-a 1/2" long piece of solid 1/8" rod slides into the 1/4" tubing perfectly to support a spliced tubing joint

Also I have been looking at tires tires, and more tires. I can't wait to get some bigger "meats" on there...its killing me seeing those 30"x9.50" on there I just don't have the funds...yet.
On to the pics:

Dude. It looks awesome!

I know what you mean, about trying to build to what you envision. It's quite a nice building-challenge, these wee trucks.

Are ya thinking about some big, bad, Pitbull tires?

Yeah these little trucks are a blast to build. Yours is looking great too man.

How did you know I have been eyeballing the Pitbulls? They are actually sitting in my cart @ RPP. It's between those and the IROKS...leaning towards the PitBulls

I didn't. It's just those two tires; the Pits and the Irocs, happen to be bad-ass, and are also on my list to get.

After making this "virtual tire" to check on sizes I decided to go with the 1.9 PitBulls.
I really like the Irok pattern but I think the Pitbulls are going to fit this build better. I can't wait to get these tiny tires replaced!

From the reviews those Pitbuls get, they seem to be the better choice any hoo.

Ok...no more virtual PitBulls. RPP Hobby has great service and I got these new tires really fast!

All I can say about the PitBulls is WOW!!!! Right out of the bag they seem soooo sticky. I can't wait to get them on the rocks.

Here is a side by side w/ the 1.9 Tomahawks (small)

Here is one mounted up
Think the new tires will change the look of this rig?

I will get them installed and post up some pics later

So I finished up the cage. Rear tube fenders are done and rear bumper. I was able to make the entire cage removable (including both sliders and front and rear bumpers) so it is a bolt on cage in one piece with no extra holes or welds on the frame. Also I ended up making a tonnaeu cover to cover the rear cargo area. I'm happy with the way it came out...just need to clean it up and lay down some paint.

Pitbulls are mounted up and installed...WooooHoooo...I have full fender wells! Man these tires are sick!!! I was only able to rodeo them around the garage (stinkin rain) but I can tell that I made the right decision on tires. On to the Pics

For some reason I really like this view...love the pinched rear!

I am loving the pit bulls. Get set up to braze it is so much fun and you can build a lot of different things instead of buying
