Default What should be 1st mod!

I just picked up my first axial G6. It if my first crawler and trying to digest all the info! With that said, what should be my first mod if there is a part or parts on it that tend to break more easily than others?

Steering links & lower links kinda like wet noodles on most with it being plastic be a good upgrade! Then as you break(if ya do)stuff upgrade as ya go unless you wanna spend more cash up front!!! All depends on how you drive it & what you want it to do...good luck

first mod, install battery, then bash away till it breaks. also you should go through and make sure all hardware is tight.

Drive until it breaks or it won't do something that you want it to do. Then fix that problem. Then drive it until you hit the next problem.

You will learn more about your rig and what the mods really do or in some cases don't do. You will also be a lot less likely to get bored with it and put it on the shelf and forget it.

If you haven't already, read the tips n tricks thread - there are some free mods that can be done if you feel they are beneficial for your use.

I upgraded the links right away, added a winch, moved the battery up front and I did get some better crawler tires. Stock Maxxis Trepador on the JK just dont cut it on the rocks.

I second this, and the comments about waiting to see what breaks or finding out what it doesn't do that you want it to do. I moved my battery on to the chassis rails, and I can't believe how well this thing climbs now (previously had it on the back). Now I am getting new foams to help with sidehilling. Currently they fold over way too easy on steeper sections. It could use a little more steering, but honestly, that really hasn't held me back.

The G6 is my first crawler, and I can't believe how well this thing climbs for me. Even the durability has exceeding my expectations. Had a few barrel rolls down really long steep hills that resulted it landing into trees, rocks, or other things...definitely enough to make me cringe. So far no damage.

For reference, mine is the kit version with the stock motor, a brushed ESC with mild drag break functionality, and a Hitec 7955 servo with a BEC. I am really happy with it and always look forward to driving it.

Metal lower links and steering link for sure...my sons new deadbolt was good for about 3 packs. After that, the tires would point which ever way they wanted. You know at the supermarket when you get the cart with the bad caster wheel thats always wobbling? Thats about what it was like.

I agree with sic1to do steering links and upper and lower links. You could make them or buy a kit axial, or vanquish products.

G6 Recon kit or G6 Falken RTR?

The Recon kit comes with aluminum steering and lower links.

Best mod is driving time and upgrading as you break stuff. You don't want to spend money on a mod you think you need now just to realize it was wasted money and is now holding you back.

That's because it was not the kit.

a lot of mods also depend on your style of driving which you don't even know yet, so definitely put some hours in it behind the wheel before you decide what you think you even want to get a fast motor slower motor upgrade gears , under drive gears the list goes from there but you get idea.

Im going with what bayaeraaxial said...just drive it and see what fails on you and replace as needed...if you drive the truck sensible and dont beat it to death you wont really need to replace very much at all and can concentrate more on upgrades that actually improve performance...i still have yet to break parts i was told would break on me and recommended expensive parts...we all want something different and you will get alot of different advice....some is very good advice...some is bad and some are just sales pitches...Good luck to you on your trailing adventures.

My personal advice to get you started:
Replace the steering links.
Replace at minimum the lower suspension links (convert to 4 link up front)
Change your motor pinion to a 16t gear.. (if you have an rtr)
Use a 2s lipo to get started with..you can decide if you need more or not down the road.
