Default ESC Overheating

OK so I am posting on my brother-in-laws behalf here this is what he has going on.

He has a Tekin ROC 412 3100KV motor that he tried pushing with a Castle Sidewinder V3 with the Castle 10a BEC as well. He says after 10 mins of crawling the ESC is to hot to even barely touch. Still has stock gearing. Now I know that there are quite a few guys that will run this motor with the MMP instead. So I was thinking that the Sidewinder was rated less than the MMP as far as AMP ratings are concerned.

Found out tonight that, that is not true. From what I have been reading both are 80a Continuous with somewhere around a 120-140a burst range. That being said, what are your guys opinions on why he is over heating?

He is going to be buying a Teking RX8 Gen 3 to deal with the issue but I do not like leaving mysteries unsolved. So any ideas? Thanks!

Stock gearing is to tall to begin with, drop some teeth on the pinion.

Secondly, running that motor on a SV3 is on the limit.

So I also found out that when he hooked up the castle 10a BEC that he did not clip the red wire coming from the ESC. From what I have read that will cause overheating issues as well correct?

I'd run it and see how it works.
