Default loose axle shaft need help

I was driving my scx10 and i seen that the front wheels where loose when i turn them buy hand. Is it possible i need a new locker? The factory one is still in there. I have read a little about them but could not find much. I need some help with this.

it's possible that you broke one or both tabs on the cast locker.

cheap pot metal cast construction IMO

If that occurs with mine... I'm going with a solid spool.

It's also possible the axle shaft's tab end snapped
or rounded out the locker's seat.

I don't think they are broke because i just put brand new axle shafts in it not that long ago. I have not had it apart yet but i will have to do that tonight. Is it possible that the 4 screws came out or became loose and that is the problem?

Can you twist the front wheels in opposite directions? If you can it's in the locker or an axle shaft. If you can't it's most likely a driveshaft issue. Last time I went crawling I lost a grub screw on a driveshaft which caused only the front tires to get power.

Yea i can twist them in opposite direction. I don't think it would be the axle shaft because i just put two brand new ones in there. What locker would you suggest? I had that happen to me to on the trails i learned that loctite is my friend.

Both wells move about an inch forward and back.

Take it apart and check. It's a locker or an axle. You won't know till you look.

If you can spin the tires a full rotation forward and backwards without moving the other tire something is broken. If you only can move the tire a portion of a rotation before it affects the other tire it is normal "locker slop". Solution... No slop lockers, I have Holmes hobbies in my rig,
locked up F, any grip fab, come to mind to as high quality no slop spools.

Avoid the ones with set screws. Can be a pain to set them up right, and I've heard the grub screws can work loose.

Locked up fi , grip fab, Holmes make easy install awesome spools.

I agree with sdmf, the set screw lockers are a little more trouble than they're worth. I prefer the solid spool style lockers like Locked-Up, Grip Fab and Hot Racing.

I've been running the Hot Racing lockers in a couple of rigs for over a year. They've held up fine under plenty of power (ROC 412 3100s on 3s) and a fair bit of abuse, but they do have more play than some of the others out there (e.g., Locked Up FIs and Holmes lockers).

I took it apart and the ends of the shafts are a little worn. Is this caused buy the locker?

there is excessive slop in the stock cast locker...
but if the tab is rounding out...
then the axle shaft itself is likely not hardened steel.

In other words...
even if you upgrade to a hardened spool or locker that offer a tighter
fitment for the axle shaft's end tang...

The axle shaft's tang could continue to round out.

Got any pics... it may not be too bad yet !?

Lose the stock cast lockers...
and get an F1 spool instead.

Did you take the differential apart yet and inspect the locker ?

OK I took it apart and the locker does look a little bigger compared to the other one that I have. I broke the axle and when I got the new one it had a gear inside. So the one that I have in their now is the replaced one. I took the shaft and I put it in the old one and there is a lot less movement. The shaft is a little wore but compared to the original shafts there is no difference for ware. I think I will get new lockers. Is the hot racing is good locker for just playing around and trail running?
