Default JBurke187's SCX10

So I have been watching builds by many of you for a while now and finally decided to post my own. It started with a deadbolt scx10, which is still pretty much stock other than a few things. I have added aluminum links upper and lower, as well as steering links, I have hot racing steel transmission gears, strc aluminum knuckles and chubs, proline ridgeline narrow bumper set, I am running a 65t rc4wd on 3s with the stock ae5 esc, and a Turningy digital servo. The wheels and tires I am running are Gmade SR03 wheels with rc4wd compass tires. I trimmed the body up quite a bit to get it sit much lower, moved the battery to the front, and trimmed the sliders and heated them up and bent them up towards the body for a nice tight fit, that is about it as far as upgrades / mods go.

Here are the various "stages" I have gone through with it,

trimmed body, added links and different wheels

New tire Comparison

Knuckles and chubs

This is where I am at now, I have taken the bed portion of a honcho and I am going to join it the front half of the deadbolt, The Doncho.

I am not sure how I want to put it all together, I thought about gluing it but i like the idea of keeping the bed portion detachable from the "cab".

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks for checking it out.

Bolt the two together and run a flipping body like my Honcho, hinged at rear of SCX frame. Nice idea, watching this one!

EDIT: Cut some lexan, bend, fold mesh drywall tape and E600 to back of 'cab' before attaching Honcho rear cage.

So here is what I was thinking, I will make some styrene or lexan tabs and bolt those to the the cage and body. Then where the deadbolt cage and honcho cage meet I will drill through the tubes and attach them with a bolt. I think that will work, I will try it out tonight and see. I may end up gluing the tabs to the body and bolting the honcho rear to those.

I do have some 22ga steel I could make the mounting tabs out of as well, we'll see what I come up with, in my head it all works, and it's worked so far so I may be onto something.

Ok, I think I figured it out, I will make a hinge so the "cab" portion can be lifted up by simply pulling the body pins out and the cage will remain attached to the chassis, if that makes sense.

Here are a couple of pictures of what I am thinking.

The body sits like this

Then the hinges would make it open like this

Just have to figure out how I will make the hinge to join these to halves together

Battery changes and trail fixes would be much easier if I can make it hinge like that. I could simply just zip tie it together but not exactly the look I was going for, looking back I think I would have left the body a little longer on the sides and simply bolted them straight to the cage, I do have another deadbolt body and cage but I'm not sure if i want to cut that one up.

Bolt both together (it will be easier and stronger) and hinge like this, page 4 of my Honcho build thread. This is the latest and current iteration of my flipping body:

I like how you have yours hinged. I will eventually do mine like that, its a work in progress.

This is what I had mocked up

I have bolted the cage together I will post the pictures later, it looks virtually the same though. Next I just have to make some lexan tabs to join the body to the lower portion of the honcho cage.

What I have learned so far it that I should have left the the part of the deadbolt cage that comes down behind the seats right at the back of the cab portion, it would have made the body more rigid, and easier to to join the two halves together.

That is it for now, been pretty busy so I haven't had a lot of time to mess with it.

That looks pretty sweet, I like how that came out. Great job and brilliant idea.

I like it, but instead of a doncho..... I think you should call it a head-bolt

Cheers

There were to many deadbolts in our group so I had to make mine different. But I liked the deadbolt body and didn't want to lose it so I went with what you see here, you could do the same thing with a g6 body.

I need to make a couple 2-3mm spacer to put in between the two cages and grind them out so they match the contour of the cage and fit like it was made that way.

If anyone else wants to do this definitely leave the portion of the deadbolt cage that comes down behind the seats, there is a little too much flex after I joined the 2 halves together. I do have another deadbolt body and cage so if I get annoyed enough with it I can start over.

I like those wheels on there too, they complete the look.

Use a piece of the old cage or sprue from Axial plastic parts for spacers.

Here it is, not the prettiest thing ever, but different never the less.

Axials wood screws are good for something at least

I know the bolts are a little large, but I can't find any others that match with lock nuts, so I used those ones instead.

Next up lighting..... Yay...

I took it for it's first run with the new body and just as I expected nothing changed except my rear departure angle. Fits good no tire rub anywhere on the body so that's a plus, took some good rollovers and nothing broke on the body so it's pretty tough, seems like mission accomplished. As I said earlier next up is lighting.

Been a while since I posted anything on here, just a couple little updates I guess. I added a new electronics plate my buddy made for me and I did my lights finally.

I also ordered some new tires today, I'm going to try the JConcepts Ruptures 1.9, they should do ok on the rocks and stuff we have around here.

Front lights dimmed when not applying throttle.

Rear lights

Front lights bright with throttle applied

Electronics plate made by my buddy

I don't use the velcro straps, I just put some velcro on the plate and my 3s batteries.
I need to do a tear down and re-grease everything and check on some bearings, I had a squeaky wheel last time I was out.
