So an update, took the Duckling to its first comp cause my Cheapbolt was down due to a cracked axle case. And I am glad I did. We attended the Clay-Kanawha Crawlers Toys for Tots Christmas Crawl. I ran Ugly Duckling and my wife ran her mostly stock Deadbolt (Chubs and relocated batt/electronics). There were 51 entries in the scale class. I got second and my wife finished 16th so a pretty good showing I feel. Duckling showing off. After check in. Hitting the first course. Giving the sled a pull. Made it almost to the end on the first pull, not bad for a tired stock 27T. I may have been able to force it to the end, but I eased off because this motor has let a little magic smoke out twice so far while spinning aggressively. I am down a few teeth on the pinion and running a 3S, the stock motor does not like that lol. And the wife on the course. If you want to see more pics from the comp and check out some of the other trucks I will leave a link here to the album on my Facebook page. Link to pics from the Christmas Crawl Needless to say I am more than happy with the outcome. Every time I drive this truck I fall more and more in love with it. Thanks for looking, I am sure there will be much more to come for this little truck. -Prime- . |

We need more builds like this... simple and well-thought out, executed properly... looks like you're having more fun and doing more with Ugly Duckling than most others decked out with $$$ rigs! Good for you!

Thank you. I do have a rig that I have quite a bit of money in but honestly when it comes time for a fun run, this is the truck I grab. Seems sometimes simpler is better.

Upgraded the steering links to metal. Went with a cheap set of eBay links that replicate the stockers, something simple and effective. And to go even farther I got a metal servo horn to add to the steering to make it all pretty much bulletproof. I am still having a blast with this truck and there are more upgrades to come. Thanks for looking. |

Great tear down and rebuild. I stepped away from RC for about two years and am planning on getting back into it this year so I will be doing the same thing X3 since I have two sons rigs too. Nice work!
