| Play in rear axle, is this normal?
I just put new bearings in my rear axles and I noticed once I got them together there's play in and out. Check out my video below and see if this amount of play is normal or anything to worry about I did make sure I put the axles in all the way and turn to make sure they was all the way in. https://youtu.be/twmz3nkvG84 |

Nope that's not normal. And tbh I'm a bit lost to what it could be.

missing bearings in the lockouts, or maybe bad lockouts.

Well, I had my stock lockouts on before I tore them down, when I put them back together i used STRC aluminum lockouts that I had laying around (got them in a trade). But I will take everything back apart and put my stock lockouts back on and see if the play goes away. Stay posted...

Had that in my Yeti after installing beef tubes . They require grinding a bearing lip, I shimmed the axle with a small piece of an old shaft.... pic in the yeti area Hang up and Drive |

The STRC aluminum lockouts was the culprit. It's hard to tell in the pic, but the outer "lip" so to speak on the STRC lockouts is maybe 1.5mm thinner than my stock, thus allowing the bearing to slide in and out. Probably wouldn't have hurt anything, but I just put the stock back on, realized I didn't like the aluminum look on those anyway. |

You could probably put a washer/shim in there to make up that difference to make it work.

Didn't the rear axleshafts used to come with shims for this? Place shims behind the rear wheelbearings to snug it up. I've also had the issue of the shafts "falling" into the housing after grinding the inner lip off to fit through beef tubes. In that case I either run a felsenfest clamping spool, or make a small steel spacer to hide inside the spool to keep the axles at the proper spacing. |
