Default Anyone else stripping axle splines???

I have SSD chubs and knucks and so far have stripped two axle housings on the splines. The first was the stock housing on the passenger side, the second was the drivers side on the Xtra Speed alloy axles. Not sure if drilling through the threads in the chub to pinch it together around the axle housing with a screw and nut would be work or not. Suggestions?

But has anyone else experienced the stripped splines? I have only taken it out three times, not too rough on it either. (I know I could go vanquish.... not on my budget at the moment) Also, the pic is from the first time it happened.

I tighten my STRC ones until the 2mm head strips & then some more.
Last one I had to take off needed the Dremel & a flathead.

Maybe a smear of Blue Loctite or some filler like a strip of emery paper or emery cloth could help.
I wonder about the SSD c-hubs...

I am halfway tempted to JB weld it in place but Im not sure I want to go that far yet. The loctite is a good idea. I will give that a try for comp this weekend.

I will bring the plastic hubs just in case it strips again. I dont have that much power, just a cc sw3 and a holmes 35t on 3s. I run somewhere around this set up in all my rigs on 3s and have not had this problem yet.

I did notice that the hubs have maybe a third of the spline count of the axle housing. No wonder it stripped those tiny splines.

I like the bolt/nut idea so you can really crank them down, you'll have to drill out the threads on the knuckles.
You'll strip a 2.0mm screw head if you try, if you have some Cap head screws (2.5mm allen) you can really crank them, but can snap at the threads.

What are the chances it is the tolerances of the SSD splines? Maybe a bit too big so tightening won't secure it. My STRC C-hubs and lock outs seem to be holding up.

This has been noted from the beginning of the 10 II axles in stock form, just drill a hole and put in a screw to lock the splines in place like the old AR60's and problem solved.

Tomorrow I will do some surgery! I will drill out the threads and go to the bigger bolt head with a nut. Ill also give the loctite a try. I have a comp this weekend so Ill post how it stands up throughout. Oh, if anyone is near Lebanon Oregon, 9am at Lebanon damn! Come have some fun!

The SSD Hub design prevents you from really cranking on the screw. Too tight and it will bind the knuckle.

I put a slightly longer bolt so I could use a nut and tighten the c-hubs from day one of my SCX0 II kit. No problems

Our C hubs are tight before you even tighten the screw as our tolerances are good. You shouldn't need to crank it to the point of deforming the C hub.
Maybe some locktite on the screw would help, it's probably coming loose.

I had put loctite the first time installing on plastic housings. They were great! They went on tight and even after I stripped that housing the bolt used to secure the C hub was still locked down and tight.

I cant imagine it being the servo/steering. Its on a perpendicular axis to the servo torque.

Looking at your image on your first post it is strange that the knuckle is pointing down.

I suspect the spline diameter Axial have chosen to mount the C hub are not the most suitable for the application.

The SSD knuckles appear to be the only ones having the issue right now. Mine stripped the axle in the same way.

Knuckles? I think you mean C hubs. Also only 2 of you.

The stock C hubs were also having this issue.
