I was down in the shop tonight working on wrapping up Jim's Wraith (jesus even I am embarrased how long that one has taken ). I was taking a look at my rig tonight and starting to do some planning on an update for it.

I have "sold" this damn thing twice now and had both guys back out I figure I'll just update the rig again and run it another season. It has been a solid rig so why not!

I am going to update the rear end with some longer shocks and a cooler, more Ultra4 style shock mounting. I plan on going back to 4WS and redoing the under hood arrangment to facilitate a winch like I did with Jim's today. I may also revisit the custom hood idea, fiberglass and carbon fiber is my thought. Once I ship Jim's off I'll start stripping it down!

Here is what I did to Jim's today.

I went down to the shop for a minute tonight to just do some planning... well one thing turned into another and I ended up starting the work on this rig.

I'll start with the rear end, as that was my plan for tonight.

I want some more travel out of the rear suspension to help absorb some of the high speed runs. The 3.5" Proline Powerstrokes are awesome but just not quite enough for this use. I also am thinking I will be adding provisions for an Axial sway bar kit. I will be moving up to some 4" Powerstrokes in the rear and laying them down slightly to exaggerate the increased shock travel even further.

The new position will be raised above the old deck lid.

The new shock towers will be made from sheet metal instead of rod, to go more along with current Ultra4 trends. Everything will mount in double shear as well. I'll be drawing these plates up in CAD and having them cut this week.

The next thing I did was a tummy tuck. I always wanted a little different setup for the skid plate. Since raising the skid plate will raise the transmission I needed to double check that there was enough clearance between the motor/trans and the interior. No issues.

1/4" square stock drilled and welded in.

The difference in height.

I removed the boat side skins and I will replace them when everything is finished. I will probably do a bolt on Delrin panel to help things slide better as well as hide the skid plate bolts.

Shock mounts are done, I'll send them off to be cut tomorrow morning.

Nice rework! The new skid mounts look sharp, and the whole plan looks good. Following. The shock mounts will be a KILLER touch.

I'm thinking a similar style rear shock mount may appear in my wrexo conversion when underway.

Looks so trick.

I was using Eric Miller's new chassis as inspiration for them. His shocks mount low and the mount is nothing too crazy.

I stumbled on this tonight, I need to look around more often! Talked to Tzi and got one of these and one of his controllers on the way! Pumped!

I agree! My winch setup was a huge pain before, this should make everything much easier.

That winch is ridiculous! For the money it looks pretty good. What do you think of the winch controller?
(Edit - looked at the controller in more detail. Looks like a pile of BEEF. Should handle any winch load without issue.) These Aussies are doing something right!
I may just pre-order the setup myself....

It says pre-order but he posted yesterday that he has 5 in stock (4 now that I got one).

I agree on the controller, looking forward to trying it out!

I'm going to have to completely re-arrange my electonics to get this in my wraith. Let the fun begin.
