So, is there a set of gears you would recommend I get? If I am going to buy them, I want to use them for the long haul.

It's just a spur and pinion. They aren't that big of an investment, just grab something. You can get Axial brand if you want.

Are the axial brand set screws better then robinson racing?

after trying a lot of different combo esc/motor, gearing and voltage, im at the point of changing for a tekin sc4x 550 or a roc412, but my wraith is mostly a basher, ttc comp bulletproof truck. what would you choose and why?

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

Hi, just got my wraith kit and still deciding on the esc and motor, I am leaning towards a Tekin rs and Tekin redline 13.5t or 17.5t.
I have a couple of questions regarding this setup;
On the website the specs for the esc say Input Voltage: 4-9 Cells, 3S Lipo and BEC: 6.0V/3.0A, does this mean it requires a 3s lipo and a BEC to run?
secont question is regarding the motor, I plan to put a 2 speed at some stage so not sure what turn motor to select? the type of driving will be 50/50 speed and crawling.

Thanks

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

I have read through this a bit, and am left with a question. Does your battery play into the motor/gearing issue? For example I am planning on building a wraith, and plan to use 3s as opposed to 2s I see alot of people running. Now, I am building it primarily for trailing/crawling and planned on running a 35t torque master as suggested. With the extra voltage, should my gearing changed from the suggested 84/18 account for the extra power through the motor, that I assume will raise temps, or is it still pretty much the same? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

3s is pretty standard. You will be fine.

Ok so I have the Robinson racing 80t 48pitch steel spur gear on my car right now and I'm running a 4000Kv pro4 I currently have a 19t pinion. Is this ok or am I in danger of over using the motor. If so what should I run without buying a new spur gear?

You are probably fine, but you should always watch your temps. It's just a basic RC practice.

If it's getting hot then lower the pinion size. You will be limited because of how small the spur is though, just based on the motor hitting the trans housing.

Next tool is a heat gun. Since I don't have one I've just been letting it sit tell the fan kicks off when I'm running it jar in the rocks and it starts getting hot. Thanks for the advice!

I have a mamba max pro coming but haven't ordered a motor yet. I've read a lot of stuff but just can't seem to figure out what I should get. Looking for decent crawling but good speed also. I've also considered getting the two speed tranny. I'm planning on running a 3s pack.

Any thoughts?

Where you talked about running a TM 35t you recommend a 84/18 gears. Does it matter which pitch...32 or 48?

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

84/18 is a 48 pitch gear set. The same gears in 32 pitch would be gigantic. The 32 pitch equivalent is like 54/12 or something.

O haha ok obviously I don't know very much about gearing. But thanks a lot man

I just installed the rc4wd tranny and so far I really like it, Much lower 1st gear and 2nd is a little higher . My motor at this point is a cheap brushless 3500kv not even sure of the gearing. I had the tranny for another project and I just got the wraith so I thought I would put it in. Now I might get one for my scaler 1.9

Decided to go with the Tekin Redline 13.5 and the two speed tranny. We'll see how it all works out.

I have a question. I have a stock wraith and have 3 east coast modifieds electic motors. They have brushes you can replace. I don't know what turn they are but I put one in to see. I used my gps on my phone and clocked it at 25mph. 2s battery, stock gearing. Now I know I can't crawl with this setup but what if I gear it down?

Not likely at all. Get a proper motor for the application.

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

burnt up the stock 20t today. Could someone suggest a motor and gearing?

Its mostly a trail rig that sees a lot of muddy hill climbs and a small amount of low speed crawling. tires are tall (rc4wd baja claw ttc's with 4oz of wieght in the front and 1oz rear)

Willing to give up some speed compared to the stock set up for more torque and dependable motor temps, still need a ok amount of wheel speed. Really only interested in HH motors. Was thinking 35t on stock gearing for a
Good all around rig?
