How many time has a IFS won?

No doubt IFS is faster in the rough stuff, but there are some inherent problems with it in both the RC and 1:1 world.

This build has been an experiment and will continue to be. I'll be running it in the mountain mash G6 on Saturday so we'll get to see how it handles racing.

I'll probably build an IFS truck or two in the near future and I will be able to apply all of the tuning knowledge I've gained from this truck.

I think only twice but it's been 2011 and 12... I.e. evolution of the sport.

Everyone should read this article.....

http://www.off-roadweb.com/tech/1205...s/viewall.html

Quick excerpt

"Getting significant suspension travel out of a 4x4 A-arm system has historically been challenging because the stock front differential was so wide that the A-arms and CV shafts couldn’t be built to a significant length without incurring a silly-wide track width in the process. Campbell’s KOH buggy uses a Currie F9 IFS differential. The Currie F9 IFS center section measures a mere 14.5 inches wide from axle face to axle face. The narrow IFS differential means longer CV shafts and longer A-arms are possible while maintaining a reasonable track width, all with rock-and-whoop gobbling wheel travel."

buggy front shocks. if it were me id scrap the crawler shocks and start with buggy shocks. i did just that .

it does appear to handle pretty dang well all i noticed was the rear end kicking on jumps

I ran buggy fronts for a while and it wasn't enough travel. It handles a lot better now with the 4" shocks.

On my last run I went up to 40wt oil in the rear shocks and it helped settle down the rear end.

Theyre holding up great. I have really only scratched the surface of tuning with them, but I already like the them over a stock piston for this kind of stuff

Now that the U4RC series is taking off and I'm back to working on the Wraith, I guess its time for a long-overdue update

Here's what the truck looks like now

I've made a ton of changes to make the truck more competitive on the tight and twisty Glen Helen U4 track.

Here's a quick rundown:

Trailing/leading arms front and rear
Battery centered in the chassis
Plastic Wheels
Better front link geometry

After a ton of different shock setups and mild success, I finally decided to move the front shocks onto the links. I also made a new link mount to put the front upper links lower and wider. Both of these changes FINALLY got the front end moving and helped balance the truck.

The new front shock setup combined with the centered battery weight and lightweight wheels made the truck a lot more nimble to drive on the track, and surprisingly, a lot better for free crawling.

Here's a video from the main event at last Saturday's U4RC race

I had a great battle for most of the race with Rich and Mike, and was fortunately able to slip away late in the race and take the win. I was fighting a very loose handling truck all day at the race, and later found out that I had destroyed the front locker. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to having both axles pulling all the time at the next race

Two places to get info on U4RC. One is right here on RCC.
Competitions and Events - U4RC at RCCrawler.com

The other is U4RC.com on Facebook

Very nice rig and I am always checking out the U4RC videos that are posted on Facebook. I am glad to see some different views on the IFS setup because it has been lingering in my head for a bit now. I have been looking at the Blue Monkey IFS kit but I don't like my Exo and I know that I wouldn't be happy with putting an Exo front end on my Wraith. I have a couple ideas for the IFS such as running a PBS setup on it but I think that after reading through this I may just stick with the SA setup and make it work with better tuning and geometry.

Your rig is amazing, good work! I saw it at the U4 race and was blown away.

Looks like that or the Axial original 4" hard anodized Wraith shocks. I love my 3.5" Losi shocks on my Wraith, easy to build, tune, no cap to mess with!

great race and greater rig, glad to see the SA working at its best and getting the win over some IFS, not that I hate IFS but I really like my wraith the way it is and thinking in keeping it that way, just tinkering and upgrading here and there.
