Default Vp currie axle diff grinding while setting up

I've got a set of VP currie axles that I'm trying to set up with axial hd gears. When I barely tighten the bearing caps I can't spin the gears by hand. I'm using hpi bushings B072 for pinion Hot Racing locker and axial HD gears for front diff. I set up my rear with the HD under drive gears and they spin fine. I've tried a assortment of brands of bearings under the cap all 10x15x4. The cap screw have to be very loose to allow the gears to turn by hand anyone have this issue before? What did you do to fix it.

They are installed with larger curved side over bearing. I am pretty sure this is the right way

I installed a currie wraith axle and had the same problem.
Just tighten it snug and use some blue Loctite.

What happens when you tighten the bearing caps without the pinion installed?

You have to bring the interior alittle VP already knows of this issue. The inner bearing rings hits the side of the housing just barley and causes it to bind. I used a dremal to shave a tiny bit off the housing to clearance the bearing. They spin freely with the diff clamps all the way tightened down. If you search there is another guy on here that even shows a diagram of what has to be done.

The other issue may be your short axle is a tad long. I had the same problem and shipped the whole thing to VP. They called and said Axial made a change in the short axles length sometime last year. He threw a new short shaft and it worked fine.

You might post this in the VP vendor section as well.

Easiest fix is to sand 0.05mm off of the inner bushing. It's very simple.

Thanks for the replies. Since I am using bushings I try to sand them down thou I dunno if I can get exactly .05mm I will sure try. Thanks for all the helpful info. I did try to search but I must have not used proper terms to get what I was looking for.

You by no means have to be exact. Just rub the bushing on some sand paper and test fit, repeat until the desired mesh is accomplished

this is what i did and it worked.

while its relatively easy to sand a bearing, given the cost of these axles its a pretty big pita.

It's an even bigger PITA when you realize you have to do this every time you replace a bearing/bushing.
