| Gearing vs motor
I have an axial wraith with weighted front wheels. All stocked electronics. I want more torque and want the motor to last. Should I regear or change motor? If regear, what gearing would work great with the stock motor and provide great torque and make the motor last? If I leave gearing the same, what motor should I get for more torque? |

stock motor wont last all that long if youre crawling with it. you can regear to make it last longer with a bigger spur and smaller pinion if youre crawling but dont expect a 20t to last forever. if i were you start searching for motors and prepare for a brushless or brushed setup that fits how you drive.

I ran mine 14/87 on stock motor and electronics and it worked great for me. I am now brushless 9/56 on my Wraith 2s or 3s.

BTW, I'm now using a ROC412 3100kv. I also have an SCX10 on 10/56 with a TorqueMaster Pro 35t.

Not without elongation of the screw holes. I had to do that with a 16t..

The motor wont slide over far enough for the gears to mesh enough. . So you make the motor mount holes longer.. closer to the trans.. or use an 87t spur. ..

| Re: Gearing vs motor Yup that's the way to go, Im 88/15 here for a 5.8 ratio. Even if you elongate the holes which I have done, the issue you will have next is the motor will make contact with the transmission case which would still have too much play for proper gear mesh, and yes the factory spur gear cover does work with the 88t spur incase you were wondering.

Personally I have found 16/87 to be the sweet spot for both the Wraith and my SCX10. Running 27t or 35t motors. Primarily 2s but using 3s if a little more wheel speed is needed.

Does the factory spur cover work with an 87 spur?
