Default Wraith brushed/brushless equivalents...

I've searched, I've read, I don't understand.

I'm very happy with my stock Axial Wraith Spawn (stock as in motor, gearing, wheels...not too much else). The 20T brushed motor is great. For me, it's the perfect amount of speed and torque. However, it gets super hot during crawls between racing around (I always mix the two). Last time it slowed right down, I stopped it, and the motor and esc were too hot to touch even for a second and I found the insulation of the motor leads had melted and fused together (all was fine after it cooled down again - what a beast!).

I've been looking at brushless systems (sensored) but I can't figure out how to match the turns or KVs of a brushless motor to the stock 20t brushed. What would I be looking at to get a brushless system that would perform like the stock motor?

I don't want a slow crawler (already have one), I want the same speed and torque as the stock motor without the heat.

What batteries are you running, and what's your budget?

There's a chart on this page: https://holmeshobbies.com/motor-recommendations that will give you some comparison of brushed motor turns vs brushless kv.

There's also a sticky'd post on the subject here: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added! though it doesn't necessarily follow everyone's thinking.

I'd vote for a faster motor in the 3000-3500kv range (you can run 2s, 3s, or even 4s with something in that range) and gear as low as you can tolerate while maintaining your desired top speed.

Here's my favorite calculator for comparing setups: https://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/top_speed.html

If you're not familiar with your car, your stock pinion is 12t, spur 56t, transmission 2.6, axles 2.92. That should be enough info to get you going with the above calculator.

Awesome. Thank you.

I'll check out the calculator and see how I go.

I'm running 3S currently. Budget is not really an issue.
