Figured out what is making the score on the idle gear.

Its the bearings that sit in the trans case cover. The two outer bearings are rubbing on that gear causing the scoring as well as the horrible noise. It seems like the hole recessed area for the bearings is not deep enough. We are talking 0.21mm off. That is just enough to cause the problem.

I guess now i need to figure out how to mill the recess for the bearing or mill down the gear.

I think you had the same problem I was having, the top link mount was sitting to Low on the pinion causing a real bad clicking and it broke my pinion and main gear, so what I did what grind down the top link plAstic piece to allow it to move more freely and since then I havent had an issue. Maybe try that.

Well I figured out what was going on. The bearings located in the trans case cover were rubbing on the gear. After a week of being torn apart, I finally got it back together tonight.

Ran the new Brood Apocalypse S-HHK 35T and man these things are bad ass!
So much more low end control and the wheel speed... Damn!!!!! Kinda afraid I'm gonna break something else!!!! Hoping it will stop raining this week so I can hit local spot and get some more time in.
