Default roglum's xr

first off i'd like to thank everyone who has done a build thread, you make my work much easier.

so i couldn't turn down trying an xr for the price they are going for now, considering i had everything to make it run. so i built it stock down to link placement and shock oil, (except for better bearings) and i was impressed. i have been running a bully for some time now and thought i was fairly happy with how it worked, until i drove this thing. the first comp that i took it to i thought about throwing it down the rocks it worked so well. but stock is only good for so long, i needed more break-over.
this is how it sat before the new chassis.

duel sidewinder micros
some tekin 35t
7954sh
vp chubs and nuks
chaotic straight tie rod
avid over-sized bearings
home brew battery mount

new parts

vp link mounts
scx shocks
mini springs
dh2s
slws
ci khaos pins w/ dd foams
hh torque master 35t (cleaned up from my bully)
bwd motor savers
chaotic crawler links
progress chassis (thanks steve)

got it all together and messily wired

i put the escs and bec on a rowdey motor mount, only thing in the chassis is the receiver. i'm itching to drive it but there's over a foot of snow hiding my rocks. i still have to clean up the wires and install the battery mount.

more to come.

Lookin good man. I like how the only thing on the chassis is the rx. Your bias should be great.

thanks, i'm liking it so far. i wanted to try mounting the elecs on the axle for bias and i didn't like how they sat in the chassis. i'll have the wiring done tonight. it should see some rocks this weekend.

got the wires cleaned up, and added a topless rowdy battery mount.

so far i am real impressed with the performance.
i have a question though.
i've read about internal springs for the rear to help side hilling, just the internal springs or outer springs in combo? and any suggestions for a length and rate?

I run the inner RCP springs in the rear shocks only along with a green mini-t spring.

got some drive time today. works great. breaks over awesome, side-hills pretty good and it is very predictable. the setup feels pretty good so far. i'm going to try rear internal springs and maybe clock to knuckles back one more notch. only got a few pics but i think this is a pretty cool sequence.

walked right up it.

with the internal springs in the rear you will sidehill much better
...some times I even run front internals when I see a course with severe sidehilling
it's all give and take....breakover vs sidehilling.....just need that happy medium

i've got a local comp this weekend and i'm pretty sure there will be more side-hills than break overs so if i get the springs in by then we'll see how it works out. i'm real impressed with the performance so far. i'm still thinking about going to the az crawl off. we'll see.

i'm in for the crawl off and looking forward to it. i hope i keep myself from making dumb mistakes.
as for how it did this last weekend, great. 31 points less than the next closest.
i got rcp's internal springs but they are way too big for scx shocks. so i went with pen springs. i've got some pics to post. side hilling is still a little touchy, but not too bad.

I'll have to build my big bore shocks
and see what springs will work
great scores!

Hey Dave...I ran your internals on the Big Bores but cut about an eighth of an inch off of em. I ran red rears and MRC silvers on the fronts and FOR ME...this setup seemed to work best.

The other thing I did was move my shock mounts inboard and stood the upper links off of the chassis. This better triangulated the suspension ans gave a muxh more stable platform on the more severe sidehills.

That chassis looks TINY in that pic with the Donas.

it is tiny.

i'm running sxc shocks with silvers front and greens rear, internals in rear,
60wt front 80 wt rear. i'm pretty happy with this set-up so far.
climbs like a goat, real predictable and side hills purty dang good.

only issue i'm having now is when on some side hills, while turning, the downside tire will cut under and the upside tire will float, kinda like torque twist. i'm going to try some stiffer springs and see what happens. hopefully the snow will melt off my rocks so i can get some more time in before this weekend.

i'm now running dlux knuckle weights and slw front and rear with ci kahos pins.
also made cf side plates. it's working pretty well.

thanks for the kind words.

made some more changes.

got a secret agent 4.0. i had made carbon progress side plates and added a few extra link holes but still felt the link geo could be a little better.
i got some sweet ottsix ice links for lowers and used aluminum tube for uppers. also changed to pro-line power jokes, err power stroke shocks.

all ready with shaved donas and blitz rims.

good balance. d-lux main knuck weights, only added weight.

weight as it sits in the pics is 4 lbs 4 oz. i was at 5 lbs 5 oz with the progress. i've had to spend some time getting used to the lighter set up. so far i like it much. this chassis is killer. right out of the box i out climbed my old one. very predictable and smooth. still have some tuning to do but it's already won a local comp.

more to come.
