| Re: The Skunk Ape....a down south Yeti. Ya know I have driven my rigs in some crazy spots, and through some pretty deep mud holes and water puddles, even a shallow rift of a stream....but the day I decide to affix a snorkel and a camera to my head and trek underwater to find good crawler action vids....well I only hope some one is there to slap some sense into me because I would have to be completely over medicated, drunk beyond comprehension or flat out losing my mind! |

Good point! Guess my statement didn't quite fit the discussion huh...

Got a couple of things in the mail earlier this week. Just got around to installing them. This D_lux/UCFab sway bar is amazing. With the softest bar and just cycling it on the bench, it feels right. Much better "feel" than the stock bar. Can't wait to see how it drives, my guess is better. Plus it eliminates that little rub the stock setup had. I also stuck the lunsford links on while everything was apart. Also picked up some Carter Fab wheel nuts. I really hope these help with having to tighten the wheel nuts every 2 min. |

I'm not surprised, but this thing started to feel a bit heavy. It sits at a RTR weight of exactly eight and a half pounds. A little towards the heavy side, but much better than I thought. I'm curious as to what some of your Yetis come in at since I've not weighed mine until now. Don't laugh at my lunch lady scale either.....It works. |

The rig looks good man! I'll post a new weight of mine after it is all back together. I'm waiting on that fancy axle and 6mm junk for the front end. At least I have another project to wrench on for a while!

Well for all the goodies that beast of yours has eaten since the start of this build, I'd say she has been working out with a serious steroid regimen to still be the same weigh as she started! I feel the need to remind you guys that muscle weighs more than fat! There is little doubt that this southern yeti beast is all damn muscle and meanness from what I can see!

SSD 2 spd got installed today. It's a freakin missle in high gear now! Took a little while playing with the EPA's to get it dialed in but it works pretty smooth now. Seems like it was wanting to pull up on the shift linkage instead of lateral and not fully engaging. Finally got it after 20 mins or so of playing with the settings on the 4PL. Only took a few of pics of the install. Then ran about half a pack through it. before I broke a Jato end Low is nice and smooth and high is absolute insanity! . |

Killer build man! I hope you still got that other body, it looked promising (not to take anything away from the sweet paint on your current lid). Just wondering, do the SSD trans gears seem more heavy duty than the stockers? Also, I weighted mine before putting my latest batch of parts and she came in at 9.9 lbs |

Thanks man! I do still have the spawn body for it. Been doing a little styrene work on it and I chopped the top off completely. I may still use it one day. The SSD gears seem pretty beefy. I'd compare them to the hardened gears we all put into in a standard axial trans. Actually, the hardened gears were one of the reasons I decided to go with the conversion. I'm sure mine is a llittle heavier now with the addition of the shift servo and new gears. I actually prefer a rig thats a little on the heavy side so it works out pretty good. I'm guessing around the 9lb mark.

I feel like the truck's weight helps to settle down the truck and give it more consistent handling. I'm running 4S though.

| Re: The Skunk Ape....a down south Yeti. I actually think they are designed to shift on the fly. I wouldn't do it at wide open throttle but they seem to shift smoother if the rig is moving. Mine sometimes won't fully engage if the rig is sitting still.

Super nice build, how are the hinge pins holdin up, how much did you have to grind off your knuckle to make the mip's work?
