Default The Skunk Ape....a down south Yeti.

So somehow I bought a Yeti slider off of E-bay during the frenzy of "pay now" button mashing that was black Friday/cyber Monday. I also picked up a few parts to get me going on the build.

Nothing really special now but a whole heap of parts should be trickling in over the next couple of weeks.

So far I have installed a STRC bellcrank set along with the VP steering posts. It all fit perfectly and REALLY beefed up the steering. A set of RPM arms also went in while everything was apart. Stuck a MIP out back too.

I picked up an Axial locker and a set of the newer 94mm uni's too but I'm unsure if I want to use those or go with the D_lux Ofna setup.

Heres a parts list.....

Up front:

STRC steering bellcrank
VP steering posts
Duuuuude rang
RPM arms
STRC caster block
SSD knuckles
Axial locker
Axial unis
McMaster M2 tool steel and alum. collars (Binaryterrors hingepin method)
Axial F1 toe block
BMRC stainless turnbuckle kit
Axial HD gearset

Out back:

MIP Yeti shaft
UCFAB trailing arms (anno'd version)
BMRC Ti upper links
D_lux U4 truss
HR locker
Axial UD gearset
VP black lockouts
VP bearing caps
VP diff cover
VP link mounts

Trans:

STRC motor mount
Robinson 64t Gen3 slipper

Electronics:

MMP
Tekin PRO4 4000kv (13 tooth pinion, plan on 3S power)
CC BEC
Hitec 7950th (racers edge horn)

Rolling stock:

Gearhead/CAC 2.2 EZ-Loc's
Pitbull RBII's
CI 6.0 DD's

Chassis/suspension:

T-Bone Racing full skid
Axial alum. shock tower
Axial alum. shock plates
Axial alum. 4-link mounts

Panels:

CFM full roof

Heres a couple pics until the parts start rolling in...

It should be a blast scaling this thing out and beating the snot out of it. Can't wait to throw all these new parts at it and see what she'll do.

The eBay slider just seemed like the logical choice. Well until they started dangling that kit version in front of us.

Yours is killer! That wrap really gives it some personality. I plan on taking a few tips from what you did there. No electronics in it at all yet so she rides a little high all around.

Waiting on parts and playing around with some scrap body panels. I may just order a cab and see what happens.

Got a few of the parts in today that I was waiting on.

These anno'd UCFAB arms are beautiful!

with the BMRC uppers

The STRC motor mount and RR slipper/spur gear.

BMRC turnbuckle set. These things were a pain in the rear to setup.

I have a few more packages that will be coming in throughout the week so hopefully I'll have it all bolted up by the weekend and run a few packs through it.

D_lux truss showed up today. This thing is clean!

I had to use the longer traxxas rod ends on the truss side of the BMRC uppers to get everything sitting right but it all went together nice and easy.

E-bay is the devil. This was one of those late night why-not? kinda buys. I kinda regretted it while waiting for it to get here but it turned out to be a pretty awesome part.

T-Bone Racing full skid

I thought it was going to be like adding a big shovel to the bottom of my ride but it actually sits real tight to the chassis and lips up where it needs to. It eliminates all those ribs and dips in the stock chassis and strengthens it from front to back quite a bit. Plus its slicker than owl poop. Only downfall I can see so far is it makes it harder to get to the little door on the bottom.

I've been looking at these.. More so the A-arm skid plates.. Thought they would aid in the snow, kinda like a ski would, and allow the front end to "float" around better, without digging in..
Looks clean!

Thanks.

I saw those a-arm skids too but I think they only work with the stock arms. If they are anything like this full skid they should be nice though. Should be perfect for the snow! I think I may add some chassis tape to this full skid to give it that extra little layer of protection and slickness.

Got a new body today and within 15 minutes of showing up it looked like this....

Trimmed on it a while and got this...

It's not a great fit but it works. Only rough cut and mocked up for now. I plan on moving the rear wheel wells back a good bit and working on not having the rear look so raggedy. I also plan to do something with the front grill/headlights. Might look ok if everything works out.

Thanks! The TBR skid is definitely a nice part. I was impressed with how well it fit.

The only thing if you use the a arm skids they do collect junk down in the arms but they do work great for keeping sticks and stuff from getting hung up in them

The spawn body looks kinda cool. Would it fit better if you put most of the wraith cage to the yeti?

Thanks, It kinda looks like a 80's hot hatch in the middle pic.

The only real issue is how narrow it tapers up at the roof, plus its a little short. If the roof and rear section of a wraith cage were grafted on it would fit perfect.

I've been working on some side panels and I pulled the stickers off the grill and started something there too, just to change it up a little. I have been contemplating chopping the top completely off. Not sure though, any opinions?

The fit and finish are great. It does a lot to stiffen up and smooth out the steering. I haven't wired the Yeti up yet so this is just from what I see on the workbench but I think it'll do really well once it sees a track.

I did have to notch the duuuuuude steering lockout to get it in flush but other than that it installed without any problems.

Figured out the direction I want to go with the grill. The easy route.....

Reign sami grill and some styrene.

Also did a little detail work. Still need to paint and detail the gas tank though.
