Default rear bevel mesh issue with vanquish axle

Hi all

I've been having trouble stripping gears, and have reworked the rear now with this: Vanquish Products Wraith & Yeti Axle Black

And axial HD bevel gears AX30401.

What i'm finding now is that the mesh is inconsistent and my yeti is effectively FWD. There're no stripping noises, and I don't see any metal shavings, but the teeth are wearing. With the stock axle I definitely heard stripping.

The rear wheels will spin under power if there's no resistance.

I assume I need some kind of shim. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

So the rear isn't driving the rear tires?

Are you still using the stock locker/spool? If so, Id bet its spinning inside its plastic housing..

Yes stock locker, but pretty sure it's not spinning- I can feel it not quite meshing when I throttle while holding the rear wheels still.

The holes for the axles look intact, so I don't think the diff is spinning free of the axles.

Well how does it look/feel when you've got the cover off and are spinning the pinion shaft by hand? I can't imagine it being that loose even when they are assembled with no care for how it's shimmed if at all.

Did you use the gasket between the ring gear and the locker housing? It will be a loose fit with it installed as it pushes the ring gear away from the pinion.

I was wrong... frdtrkguy was right - locker was spinning in the housing. but wouldn't have believed it until i tried to take the gasket out...

thanks everyone!

Hot Racing spool. Best $15 you'll spend on a crawler.

I've been looking for non axial/vanquish lockers. How have the HR locker lasted?

Holmes Hobby and Locked up RC both sell lockers. Don't rule out the Vanquish locker either.

I've got HR spools in my pig of a Wraith with Curries and 5.75" Baja Claws and they have held up great, they were installed when the rig was new, in 2011. They do have a bit of slop but it doesn't bother me. They still do their job and for cheap.

I've got a HR spool in the back of my Yeti too.
