| Re: Listening to music? no, but no. To narrow Pink Floyd's masterpiece to a "song" is not giving them the breadth they have trenched out of popular music that is deserved. That would be like saying Monet's best color was blue. I know pop music has convinced the world that the term "song" means something when it really is just a way to package & distribute the art of music. Dark side of the Moon is their masterpiece & it is a song, just close your eyes & listen. Echoes & Comfortably Numb are wonderful examples of the greatness that was Pink Floyd. Echoes fans should check this movie out if you have not. Pink Floyd live at Pompei |

Been a PF fan for about 25 years, literally. Love them with all my heart. I can't disagree, but I can have my preference. DSOTM is EXCELLENT in every way, I own about 4 copies on various formats. Something about Echoes just does it for me in a way that nothing on DSOTM does. It took me a while to get there, but I'm there. Just like some people think The Wall is their masterpiece... crazy people... Live in Pompeii is WONDERFUL and I've watched it a dozen times, at least. I'll take ANY PF over no PF. So no arguing over PF, ever! |

If I had to listen to 1 album for the rest of my life (& only 1) it would be a Floyd album (hard choice which one.) Last edited by Dostradamas; 07-23-2013 at 10:49 AM.

Ah great. Grew up on 3 Albums Jimi Hendrix Smash Hits Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon The Woodstock movie soundtrack I am a Hendrix fan as well (Band of Gypsies was going to blow the doors off the world) & this leads me to my question. What do you think of SRV's version of Little Wing? I think its the only cover of Hendrix I have heard that is ( I know I will catch hell for this) better than the original. |

Catch hell indeed. Without it, he... eh, shouldn't go there. SRV was/is excellent. I'll leave it at that. A more modern day Jimi? I got Smash Hits on vinyl from my mom. Got a ton of Jimi vinyl, original and reissues from late 90s. A ton. I really enjoyed Mitch Mitchell. And hell, Noel Redding too. They were almost perfect. Especially for some white boys backing Jimi! Buddy Miles in BOG was awesome, I have an album of his too. Starts out with Them Changes. Even has a cover of Neil Young on it. And Otis Redding I think. All EXCELLENT music. |

Jimi had a knack for picking great talent for his accompanying musicians. My daughter is occasionally awoke to the Star Spangled Banner at Dawn from Woodstock. Thats my National Anthem!
