If I had to listen to 1 album for the rest of my life (& only 1) it would be a Floyd album (hard choice which one.)
This brings back the memory of the very 1st time I heard Pink Floyd.
Came home from school and as I walked up the sidewalk to the back door of the house, I heard a sound that I couldn't identify and definately had never heard before. I walked in and Dad had done some home stereo work. While in the Navy during Vietnam he shipped home a Pioneer receiver/amplifier and 4 speakers, along with a VERY nice turntable, 8-track player, and provisions to add the then new cassette tapes. They had been stored in the basement for some time, and he decided it was time to bring them up and "Make sure everything still worked good."
All 4 speakers were at an absurd volume (remember I was about 7 or 8 years old) and the true quadrophonic echo was rocking the house down to the structure. He was sitting at the kitchen table, paying bills or something. He turned and looked at me, and said Hello. I remember seeing his lips make the motion of the word, but couldn't hear what he said.
He walked over to the receiver and turned the volume down so I could again hear what he was saying. I asked him what he was playing and he handed me the jacket cover for Dark Side. Yes, he was rocking the original vinyl, that I still to this day have locked away.
I rember opening the jacket and reading the words and thinking this was some strange and very appealing music. That was almost 30 years ago..
I listened to them on and off and when in high school purchased The Division Bell. One night while in college he called to see how I was doing, during the down time between rounds of Chemo. He asked me to turn the stereo down because he couldn't hear me over the music. We both laughed a little when we realized it was Dark Side I was listening too while doing homework. He died about 3 months later.

Still to the day, no matter where it is, I hear those words and melodies and it reminds me of him.
It's strange how people will associate things together. Music with emotions, that time in your life where things were tough, and how through it all, there was the music..

So here is to my father and the man I called Dad..

Reissue of Unplugged is due out pretty soon. Finally get to get a copy on vinyl.

When the guitar on Man Who Sold The World hits, I had a very special moment and will always remember it.

Wall had issues, but I saw it at such an early age in my life I'll never forget the movie, ever.

And on another note, still addicted to these guys.

I just dislike Rick's signature sound more and more. Within the first :30 seconds of a recording I can tell you that Rubin produced it. Loud raw drums, damn near raw everything. It's his style, so whatever. I will admit that it's pretty cool for a listener to be able to pick out the producer just by listening to the track, so I commend him for that.

And yes, Metallica was much better with Cliff.

Yep, since he started making single syllable words into 5 syllable words "die-eee-eee-eee-eee", I've hated his singing. This really started to show on the Black album. I remember buying that in JrHigh and I thought it was terrible. They were much better as a thrash band than they are as a rock band.

I reworded my post to show that I was referring to Rick and not James.

But yeah, you either love it or hate his voice. I'm pretty indifferent to it. I like making fun of the "yyeeeaarrrrhhs". and the "whooo--oh-oohhs"

Death magnetic is surprisingly thrashy for them!

Indeed. The Black album was the one Bob Rock produced.

Flemming Rasmussen now there was a thrash metal producer.
