ya I feel like a dork sometimes for sure, the girlfriends family gives me a bunch of crap for playing with "toys" too. I think the gf is getting me some r/c's for christmas and i'm sure i'll really hear about it then. you can usually end it pretty quick with a ok... i'll sell it and get a real jeep and do the real thing!

i cant be black or white...im just me.

I didnt feel like a dork when I used to run my LST, Savage, and 1/8th buggy at a big park in Virginia Beach. Sometimes there would be a pretty big group of people who would stand around and watch.

The inevetable question would come up:
"How much does one of those cost?"

Of course the answer for a modded LST
"I have a little over $1000 in this one."

Their response:
I hate to answer that question.. I think it turns a lot of people away from R/C's. They think it's too much for them, or that’s too much for a toy, before they experience it for themselves.... I try and answer that generally with, they start at about $180 RTR and custom or upgraded go over $500... That gives them the chance to at least check it out before they decide it's not for them.

Except my kid is only 4. Kind of hard to pass off that one.

I feel most dorkish after encountering another rc'er and babbling on like a little kid about all sorts of rc related stuff. But then again, I'm paid to be a nerd at my job, so it just goes with the territory!

I sorta do, my friends thinks its just stupid except one who's into rc's as well, they always ask how i can spend 100s on the stupid little cars. But then i let them drive it then they want one. Its really funny when me and my friend talk about it at school, like servos and escs and such. Everybody is like what the hell are they talking about. I always tell them not to worry about it.

I have been out of RC for several years and when I initially posted this, I did feel somewhat awkward re-entering the hobby. Not anymore! I am back into it at full speed. I can't pass by a pile of rocks on the commute home without breaking my neck to get a closer look!

I'm actually not affected today but I think there was a time that it did seem like a dorky thing to be doing. Now I just recognize it as a relatively common mental illness as does most of society.
