The technology as it pertains to telephones is old. But when you take it and apply it to radio control it is a new application and therfore you should expect to pay a high price. You won't have much luck picking one up cheap.

is a 2.4 Ghz radio committed to only surface use and air use models like FM technology? or can i buy a spectrum 2.4 Ghz 6 channel park flyer model and use it on a surface model without breaking any king of FCC laws?

What are these FCC laws you speak of?

2.4GHz is 2.4GHz

Horizon sells the DX6 with a spring return on throttle.

The only difference between air and ground DX6 radios is the spring return throttle.

If you search the forums here you'll find my how-to on modding your own DX6.

I'm definately enjoying glitch free reception from my expensive DX3, the three channel, pistol grip, steering wheel version. Super close, or super far away, no glitching.

All the adjustments, a return to center switch for rear steer also. So I like it.

EePee, the DX6 has two links between the TX and RX (RX actually has two receivers)

IF the system drops a frame, it automatically shifts over the the other link.

I love my DX3 as well.

Regarding the DX3, be sure to re-bind everything once you've set your throttle and steering for failsafe purposes.

I've seen the three channel radios on ebay for as low as $175 w/ one rx, but that's pretty rare.
I have a DX3 for my Associated TC4 and HPI 5B. I want 100% glitch free with the fast and/or expensive stuff. And the built-in failsafe is great to have with a fuelie/nitro. It's definatly worth the money.

They say in the manual you can chop the 8.5 inch long antenna to 3.6 inches, and experience no loss in reception, which they say is good to 3000 feet. I couldn't see what I was doing and the truck still had no glitches. Awesome.

I didn't rebind mine.

Re-binding is something you'll want to do when installing a radio in a 1/8 buggy or other nitro vehicle.

If, for some odd reason, your crawler takes off it's not too difficult to catch, and it won't break ankles like a 1/8.

Dez...Spektrum is a Horizon Hobby brand (like JR, Losi, etc)

http://www.spektrumrc.com/

EeePee, the reason the DX6 has two links is that planes change orientation in the air, unlike a ground based RC where the antenna is constantly vertical.

Reception can fade in a plane since it's doing things ground based RCs don't. The two antennae on the DX6 RX are (ideally) supposed to be orientated 90 degress from one another when installed in the plane.

I have had abosolutely no problems with my DX6. Performance wise I like it better than the VG6000, but I really like easy to use display/menu on the VG6000.

Then again...with the DX6 I don't need a V-tail mixer for throttle, I just program a 1-4 100% mix and be done with it.

I won't be getting rid of the VG6000 or the DX6.

Both are great radios.

But for the average hobbiest, I don't think all the bells and whistles that the Nomadio unit has is entirely worth it. I have been in the R/C hobby since '83 and I would never shell out that kind of money. $500 vs. ~ $200... Thats $300 worth of parts/batteries/motors/other R/C...

Well, the Spectrum only had 3 model memory the Nomadio has 40. The Spectrum you have to spend an another 125 or so for the telemetry and the Nomadio has it all ready. Also the Nomadio is only 400 and some change from tower. I love my Spectrum but cannot wait to get the Nomadio.

I have a DX3 that I use for racing. I got a second receiver to use in the crawler. It works great. Not having crystals is awesome.

There are 79 (I think) channels on the Spektrum bandwidth. When you turn on your transmitter it searches for a channel that isn't being used. That means up to 79 vehicles can be used at once with no interference. Almost everyone uses it for racing at the local club now. The short antennas are a nice feature also.

You can also mix rear stear with the third channel on the DX3. No Y harness necessary.

Set the "A" button up as a 3 position switch on the menu and it'll work just like the trusty TQ3.

Yeah, and the free 2nd reciever is a deal maker.
