Default Servo winch question

I'm trying to figure out what oz servo to use on a 6 to 10 lb rig. I have a 130oz and my friend says thats good enough, is it. I would think a bigger oz would be better and don't ask me why, thats just what I think. I see people talking about the 645 but I have not had good luck with that one, and its about 130.

Get a Hitec 5955, 7955, 7950, or 7980. No such thing as overkill!

of course more oz is better as it will pull the weight easier. ive used one with only 80oz and it would out pull a 3r winch. if the servo is cheap try it and see if it will do the job. currently on one scaler that had lots of room up front i put a 1/4 scale servo with 340oz at 6v for a winch in it but its running off 3s lipo and will brea hd winch line before it breaks a sweat

The torque requirements of the servo depends on your desired pull speed.

The diameter of your winch spool makes a big difference in line speed and the servo's leverage. A small spool will allow a weaker servo to do the job, although with a much slower line speed. If you need more line speed you want a larger drum, which requires a stronger servo.

I'd consider a 645 the bare minimun with about a 1/2" spool. Lighter rigs can get away with a 9/16" spool.
