| Current best servo on the market
Ignoring cost, what is the baddest 'standard' size servo on the market currently? I'm running Savox SA-1283SG's (silver case) front and rear in my wraith right now with a CC Pro 20a BEC at 6v, and they're rated at 416oz, but I tend to stall them out frequently when crawling. Especially with returning to center - i.e. it has the torque to turn, but won't always straighten out in sticky situations. I have a JR Z9100HVT in the comp crawler, and it does well, but looking for current best in class. Considering the Hitec 7980 and 7990. I know they're slightly larger than standard, but should mount up in the wraith fine I think. Do any of the other manufacturers have anything that can compete with them? Is the magnetic encoding worth the extra $ in a crawler? I did search, and read through all of the "best reasonably priced" threads, but wanted everyone's opinion on best of the best. Thanks! |

The 7950 is a plus sized servo. The baddest standard size servo I know of is the Airtronics 94780M. Fits everywhere and 423 oz/in @ 6v. I've got one and love it.

Anything made by JR or Futaba...the rest are all subpar, over rated and a waste of time.

I've had great luck with Hitec 7950, 7980, and 7990. JR's always seem to wig out after a bit.

Futaba S9157 425 oz-in @ 6V. That's what I'm running in my XR.

I love the Hitec 7950. I didn't realize it's a plus size... it's fit everywhere I've used it with no problems. |

Hitec 7950 is a standard servo. It walks all over the airtronics. I have run 9 volts to mine without issue for years. Put 9 volts to airtronics and you get get smoke. But the OP question: Best servo for a crawler is Hitec 7980. Very strong, takes high voltage, and carries the Hitec warranty which it best in class. And will fit in a stardard mount with just a little effort.

I'm going with the 7950. However the airtronics 94780 is the quietest I've used, but parts are scarce and support lacking. When I buy another I'm thinking the futaba bls172hv, the bls152 was a slightly smaller case, and I've had excellent support service from futaba with my tx.

I just switched to a BLS-157HV in my Wraith and couldn't be happier. It tosses the wheels around with authority and quickness.

Damn. You can get that 7980 right now for less than the 7950. @The Violator, what do you have to do to get it to fit? |

| Re: Current best servo on the market Got a link to a servo with a 3 year warranty. I am guessing you mean Airtronics, I called them and they said 1 year. Quote:
A little file work, or opening the mount holes will get it in there. On my berg Last edited by The Violator; 10-15-2012 at 01:13 PM.

I was a big fan of the 7950, until i tried a Bls157HV. The Futaba kicks ass If you can afford the few extra bucks, get the Futaba.

Like the Violator said...Hitec 7950 hands down the best bet! Whether or not the warranty for another brand says its good for 1, 2, 3, 4, or more years the Hitec crew will get you taken care of. I've sent them numerous servos over the years (all different models) and never had a receipt. I typically get a "like new" servo back in the mail no questions asked The 7980 is a great servo also...just needs a little work to make it fit most applications. I've watched the newest Futaba servo in action and it does seem to be very strong and VERY quick...but for the price difference and the peace of mind knowing the Hitec warranty service is behind their servos I just can't justify the Futabas. |

I agree, that Futaba is decent (it came on a XR-10 roller I bought). No issues other than breaking 2 servo mounts and the case ears...twice! It's a PITA to spend ~$35 for a "case kit" just to have it break again. PS, I'll take a HiTec 7950 over a 7954 any day.

You should ask a guy at your lhs. I am running a 7950 and a 7955 and I have had both longer than some of my rigs. Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2 |
