I'm surprised no one mentions that the Roc412 is 4S capable while the Pro4 is only rated to 3S according to Tekin's site. Seems to me that the Roc412 is the better option, it has a lower kv which is better for crawling, and if you want to go stupid fast, throw in a 4S pack and you should get a better top speed versus a Pro4 on 3s.....am I missing something here?

The reason they're rated differently is the intended use.
With (near) constant high speed, as the Pro4 is a racing motor, 3S will produce enough heat.
Crawling with very short bursts of full power the motor doesn't generate as much heat, so a higher voltage can be applied.

Crawling with a Pro4 on 4S is just fine while racing with an ROC412 on 4S will cause overheating!

I would go 550 sc4x 7.5t it's got more control and torque than the crawlers need. Use a smaller pinion if u are scared of going fast with it. I have a 6.5t in a slash 4x4 and with a 20t pinion can go as slow as I want with it so in a crawler with say a 15t pinion u will be fine.

I also just put this into a night crawler with a modded stock pinion, way faster just as much power and is on a sv3 so a mmp would help it out more but it's pretty good without it.

Taking this topic to the top instead of making a new. I simply cant decide between a Pro4 and ROC 412 for my Wraith. I intentially thought about the ROC 2300kv but after reading some threads many that tried both seem to prefer the Pro4 even for crawling.

I'm mainly in to crawling and trailing, but do want some wicked torque and wheel speed to "foff" past my budies up the hills, throw massive amounts of dirt and mud, thear up terrain. Hopefully it's possible to combine. Running 35t/3S and feels it oacks power under certain situatilns and the wheel speed is not enough.

pro 4 hd total opposite. but they do happen to have good crawling capabilities.
Hmmm, well according to Ty over at tekin.........

I base my findings from manufacturers not the interweb hear-say....... Just sayin

i got the pro4 3300 in 4 of my rigs, 2 of them wraiths, and i think its a fantastic all-around motor, especially if you want to have some wheelspeed on reserve.

I dont want to call them down but I have lost two roc motors due 4o the magnets breaking loose. Not sure why its happening but 200.00 a motor starts to hurt the pocket book.

Stop putting 4s into a motor designed for 3s and you'll keep from breaking the rotor magnets.

I disagree with a 550 not being an option. I run a HD pro4 550 1850kv, .8 mod 32 p 18t spur 54t 3rd gen rrp slipper. I put small spacers under the transmission and everything clears fine. Was using a mmp but am trying out a 2nd gen rx8 right now. Love the hd 550 though, goes slow and fast
