| screw stuck in servo... So I got a hitec 645 servo in a trade but when I tried to remove the servo arm I found that the screw was stripped. I drilled out the screw head and removed the servo arm but the rest of the screw is still stuck in the servo. Anyone have any ideas how to remove it? I can't get a good grasp on it with a set of needle nose pliers. I also can't weld so I can't weld anything to it to be able to get it out... |

Good hardware store or McMaster-Carr would have left hand drill bits. A 1/16th" bit would likely work.

Something that has worked for me before is to grip the remaining part of the screw with side cutters. If there is a little bit of screw sticking up, you might be able to use the side cutters like a small pair of pliers. The usual disclaimer of be careful and wear eye protection and proceed at your own risk etc. Opening of side cutter < === remaining part of screw Have the screw pointing up and down, approach the screw from the top with the side cutter opening like an upside down V. Carefully apply pressure with the blades of the side cutters so that it grips opposite sides of the screw. Because the metal of the side cutter will be quite hard, it will often be able to dig itself into the softer metal of the screw. Now gently rotate to remove the screw. Good luck! |

Get a dremel with the cutoff wheel and cut a slot in the center across the screw head and remove it with a flathead screwdriver. Done this many times. Very easy.

how much of the screw is sticking out? if there is a little try notching it with a cutoff wheel like it was said above me. if not you might have to try and drill it out, probably not easy without screwing up the servo gear. worse case you might have to buy a new top gear for the servo, but on a hitec 645 it might not even be worth it. |

You don't need to use the cutoff wheel to make the slot so deep it hits the servo's splines. You can make a slot plenty deep enough to use a flathead. I have never seen a screw in a servo too small to slot. Worse case is that you're out 1 screw.
