Default Over heating problem! Help.

I put a fantom 27t stock race motor in a stock scx10 with stock gears And a AE-2. While crawling the motor and speed control got really hot, smelt burning. Would gear down stop or help the over heating? And what gearing would u suggest?

Is it geared 5:1?
The big number divided by the little
27t was too fast for my ridgecrest to crawl so I'm guessing that's a big contributor also. I'd suggest 35t for dedicated crawl, 30t for a little crawl and more trails, 27t or lower for trails and bash.

But mostly make sure for motor temps run a 5:1 ratio spur/pinion or lower, ie: 6:1

Was this on 3s or 2s?
And make sure there are no binds. Pinion mesh on motor, and wheels tires not rubbing anything, drivelines at bad angles binding.

Gearing is 87/20=4.35 2s. Only binding is new axle house and ring and pinion alittle tight. I figured it would brake in.

You probably should be in the range of 87/14 to 87/15 with the gearing.
I would also take the axle apart to see if can find the cause of the binding.

You should be able to turn the input shaft of the axle and have the axle turn with very little resistance. If it is hard to turn, then you will cause heating problems for you motor.
