Default Castle Creations BEC version 2.0

Just got this email. A new BEC.

I am liking the idea of the waterproof case.

Looks like larger gauge wire and higher output. Sweet deal if it's price is reasonably close to what the 10a goes for now.

We may not be that lucky. Looks like $30 for the BEC 2.0 and $40 for the waterproof BEC.

10a is $25 at the local hobbytown so $30 isn't bad. Heck the pro 20a version is only $35 so if there is a new 25a version of the pro on the horizon for $40 then all the craptastic servo owners should rejoice as their junk finally gets powered right.

$40

My $20 CC bec has been through hell over 3 years. Snow, water, mud, heat. Not a single problem.

Wait a gawdammed minute... for whatever reason that chart in the first post didn't show up earlier. That means my 10a bec's are only spitting out 5 amps? Fawk. Time to get a pro version for the crawler I guess.

New and improved is good, but for $10 more a pop. That's a steep price hike. Maybe the new ones will fail less often?

Just another reason to go for Holmes 12v servo. Or just settle with only 6v and the cheap hobbywing ones for 3$. It's getting extremely expensive if the they expect us to buy bec for 40$ for a 100-120$ servo. If anything they should try to hit a lower price point to meet the Chinese competition.

Or just put in a dedicated 2s battery for $5.

When holmes makes a servo good for 4s that puts out 700 oz I'll agree. Until then, nope not for me.

What he's doing with that servo is awesome, ditching the need for a bec. But Im not a fan of losing servo power as the pack runs down. I like having constant servo performance through out the battery pack.

I like the fact that the new 2.0 WP is noticeably smaller in size... it's the shortest of all of 'em.

Still quite wide and tall for a BEC, but since you don't need to try to cram it in a WP box you can mount it with servo tape to whatever.

Just looked at the chart again, standard bec says 2s-3s 7a then 3s-6s 5a. Is it supposed to say 4s-6s 5a?

Noticeably smaller? Lol, its 8mm shorter but fatter and heavier.

But is the extra price worth it for WP? You can conformal coat the standard one and be WP.

Can't say I've needed more than the 10a BEC but cool to see new options.

The 7 and 5 amp are continous numbers. And peak output is 10 amps. During startup number can spike.

15A? Who are we trying to kill?

I did buy this 10A HobbyWing BEC, but I haven't had a change to try it. It is huge though.

I like the idea of the factory waterproofing. But than again, every time I order on I get it from Holmes and just have them waterproof it and I dont worry about it.

I got one the CC BEC 2.0 and the instructions say "Plug both outlet leads of the CC BEC 2.0 into separate channels on your receiver". I don't understand that statement.

Would that be like running two BEC's??

There are 2 output wires on the unit, both of them should be plugged into the receiver. This is because the power output of the BEC is higher than the rated current capability of the servo connectors. If you are near maxing out the BEC and you only have one of the wires plugged in you could cause a fire, or at least melt the plastic of the plug. If you are out of ports on your receiver it is fine to plug them in via a Y harness with your servos. In most 1/10th scale setups you will not be near the limit of the plug, and you could plug the second one into a set of LED lights or some other accessory.
