Default Electronics setup for TRX-4?

So, me and my father are building a TRX-4.

It's going to be a crawler/trail, no comp or racing. 2 speed transmission. Oh and it's going to be running on a 2s lipo.

Looking for high torque, lower wheelspeed. Not really going to be using it on pavement so don't need 20mph. With that said, being a 2 speed it wouldn't be bad if 2nd gear had a bit of speed for the trail.

Aiming for around $100-125 or so for the motor/esc. So almost surely brushed. For the servo, looking at this.

Right now I am thinking about the Hobbywing 1080 and a Crawlmaster 550 or Torquemaster 550. Not sure on machine vs hand wound.

Also looking at the new Reedy 5 slot.

Open to anything, though.

Thanks!

I would say all of your picks are right on! Go with the Crawlmaster for what you want to use them for. And looks like the price is right for your budget.

Thanks for the info!

Do you think the 10T or 12T? I would think 12T but it is a 2 speed and a 2s lipo.

I think John only makes the pro 550 in 10 and 12, and they are $99, I think the sport line is $15 and more in your budget? I would go with a 21 or 27 turn.

I don't think there is a crawlmaster non pro? Or maybe I missed it.

There is a machine wound 540 version of the Crawlmaster.

I would say 12t CM pro 550 is a really good choice for your needs. Will be super smooth, really great on the rocks and trails.

Are you going to go in water or mud?

You can't go wrong with the HobbyWing 1080 ESC for brushed.

Thanks for the info! You think the 12T will be good with a 2s? We're happy gearing down a bit for our wanted speed but don't want to not have "enough motor" because we're using 2S.

Not really going anywhere like that. Mostly dry, the worst will be wet leaves and a creek bed with some small puddles.

Should be fine, it's still quite a quick motor especially with the 2 speed. But 10t would be a little peppier on 2s.

Then you'll be good with brushed or brushless. So listen to John. He knows motors because he sells motors. I can personally vouch for his motors and his customer service.

I'll probably stick with 12t then just in case I decide to up to 3s in the future.

Your responses are appreciated! We were really having a hard time deciding between brushless and brushed, but now I think we have a decision. I'll be ordering the 12t CM Pro this evening.

I run the trx4 with a 10t crawl master on 3s with a 9t pinion and I love it. I can assure you there is no need to use a slower motor. As the first gear is 80:1 with a 9t pinion.
