Nice. I'm going to have to try this on one of my many servos that I have in my parts bin. Can't beat this type of controller for the price!

I can't confirm that regular steering servos will work, it's possible never tried one, the guy who told me this years ago told me they had to be continuous servos. I tried micro continuous servos and they work but they drift, these tower pro MG 995 continuous servos are around $20 for 4 on Amazon and they don't drift, so still very cheap.

Nice vids! Thanks.

Are you just getting back into RC or still in RC and just now making a return to RCC?

Never left RC but got into some other projects and stepped away for a bit, had some life changing things happen in 2019, my dad passed, lost my job of over 30 years, so I had to bounce around from job to job til I found a new fit, got that all straightened out, then my wife and I bought a camp so that's an ongoing project but well under control now, so I'm back to what I love and keeps me sane

I hear that. 2021 was that year for me when my girlfriend of 7 years passed away from COVID only 3 months after we bought a house together. Things seem better for you now so that's great!

A camp? Wow. Seems like a big commitment, but maybe it has crawling terrain.

I remember about your girlfriend, my condolences bud, camp is a little bit of commitment but not bad, house is paid off and camp is as well so it's more of a maintenance matter more than anything, I haven't explored much yet up there but I'm sure I'll find some good spots

I'm good now. Thank you! Sorry about your dad!

May I ask if the camp is in PA?

Thanks bud! Yeah I live like 30 miles northeast of Pittsburgh and our camp is up north near Cook Forest. I do know it's close to Atv trails so that will be great for the side by side, I'll be sure to find some crawling spots doing that lol

ATV trails?! Now I’m jealous. Sadly too far of a drive for me being on the complete opposite side of PA.

I haven't done or inspected it myself, but I've seen a video of someone taking apart a steering servo and removing/cutting the pin off one of the gears to allow it to become a continuous servo. It was basically a video on how to convert a steering servo to continuous for winching.

So it's definitely possible, I may try it later tonight , I'll report my findings.

Well I can confirm that a regular steering servo, at least the two rtr servos that I tried will not work as a winch controller, they will run it both directions but as soon as you leave off the switch it returns to where it started, it would have been a nice bonus for all of us with all those rtr servos laying around. Still to buy a four pack of Tower Pro MG995 continuous servos for 20bucks on Amazon ain't bad, you're getting four winch controllers for 5 bucks a pop. Pretty good deal I think.

Shoot, I didn't know those servos were that much of a bargain. Your method seems the better route.

Thanks for checking back in. You're literally working at it at the moment haha.

Ok, thanks for investigating. For $20 bucks I'll have to give it a try.

I do have a couple of the RC4WD scale winches that are in need of a controller.
