| Szczerba’s IFRS 1.9 Build (Build ~ #63)
GOM chassis cut in a few spots, narrowed in a few spots and two Element IFS kits. Will be sticking with 4.75”, 1.9 tires. WB is around 12.25” ish. Still a few things to brainstorm but not too tough. Both suspension kits are bolt to chassis on top side. Lower 0.060 styrene skid is mock. Will probably cut lower part of chassis and tuck the belly some more. #szczerbabuilt Last edited by Szczerba; 03-14-2020 at 12:11 PM. |

Saw this on the bookface and tried to come back here to check the thread and am happy to see we’re back online here. Very cool build and looking forward to seeing this come together. This one would be fun to see hauling on some dirt. |

have a Dlux Hambergler transmission for now. Need to go to the store and get some thin aluminum plate for the skid. | ||

Doing some mocking up of the mock up skid. Chopped off part of the lower chassis to get some belly clearance. Transmission (Dlux hambergler) is located by using a mock up rear driveshaft that is roughly 140mm long. Mimicking the yeti MIP shaft that will be used. Put the trans/motor in a decent spot to boot. Front driveshaft angle will be lessened a bit with final skid design. |

| Re: Szczerba’s IFRS 1.9 Build (Build ~ #63) Thanks. I have been wanting to build a full independent car for sometime. Wanted to stay away from a full metal chassis due to weight. I had planned on using a Capra, bomber or cut up exo chassis with the two IFS kits. Then I remembered the looks of the GOM chassis. Cost me about $125 for the GOM parts. The hood area is cut and narrowed by an inch or so. I will cut and shorten up the front of the hood to pull it back closer to the front axle too. On hold for a short bit for some parts ordering/delivering. And I got some help from a friend to cut me a 0.090" AL skid. |

I recently rediscovered how cool the GOM chassis is. Really odd to me why those didnt take off, they instead just kinda fizzled out? Awesome choice for this, and its already shaping up to something VERY cool! |

I think the issue with the GOM was some negative feedback on how it was tough to work on, maybe not. If you took a kit or rtr from the box and lowered the ride height, even with 2.2's it looks mean as heck. I don't know about how it handle or crawled though.

Hey - I recognize that cage! Looking very cool man. The 4.75 - ish tires look good at the lower ride height. |

Plastic surgery. Goal was to use plastic pieces from the parts bin to build this IFRSGOM up. Besides the high altitude performance Aluminum skid. Still lots of little work to do. Finally got to reuse this delrin skid I acquired in like 2011. Cool thing is I only had to slice the skid, the width, skid thickness, cutouts and holes were perfect for the back shock mount. Hood/nose will be cut and shorted up towards A-pillar. #szczerbabuilt Front Found an old piece of a parts tree with some posts that were exact width to mount the shocks on. Cut old piece out and grafted this in. Screwed to bulkhead too with some spacers. Rear. Used an old delrin skid that worked perfect. ... Front nose/hood will be cut and shortened. |

This is looking amazing! I was kicking around the idea of doing a fully independent suspension build and this is truly inspiring, thanks What does it take to lock out the steering on the rear end? |

Very cool! I’ve never seen a parts tree used as a shock mount, that’s some Macgyver ingenuity right there. Loving the way this is turning out. |
