Default Re: Gatekeeper vs Capra

The crossmembers at the front have the top one slightly more forward than the bottom, giving a stinger like look. The bottom one has 2 tabs that interface with two tabs in the front bumper mount location to provide the pivot. It was the tabs that broke.

The challenge is the Gatekeeper is the same chassis as other elements with a cage on it. This is what limits the clearance at the front. The Capra OTOH is purpose built as a cage and thus doesn’t have the clearance issues. Pretty similar with other rail chassis. You need longer front links to get the axle out front so the tires hit before chassis, or a minimal bumper or much larger tires (my rigs are either 4.19 or 4.75 tires).

The stock bumper on the Ecto does stick out in front of the tires, but it doesn’t stick out as far as the Gatekeeper. Additionally the tabs create things to grab rocks on the front, so in my limited testing thus far, the Ecto body does not get as hung up on front bumper as often as the Gatekeeper. I could probably improve it by removing the fairlead and save another 3mm. The nice thing is it is < 5 minutes to swap bodies.
