Check to make sure there are still 1-2 (originally white) o-rings stuffed into the cups of the outer stubs. These o-rings limit the moment of the inner shafts, not allowing them to pull out of the final gear. If you received it second hand, the outers may have been swapped out with AX-10s, and the original owner may have forgotten to put the o-rings in.
