Please pardon the crappy cell phone shot. I was too lazy last night to find the real camera. If you are bored enough to make a set of your own Egressor wheels you'll realize that ventilation is annoying if you don't cut large holes through both the beadlock and compression ring to allow airflow. At first I tried three small holes drilled through both pieces, but alignment during assembly was a pain and it was hard to get all 8 pieces to have the eact same pattern making them interchangeable (not matched, directional pairs). Solution: lathe a breather groove (0.025" deep) on the inside of the compression ring that spans the vent holes. This way regardless of whether the beadlock holes are aligned with the compression ring holes, the air always has a path out of the beadlock. It works well. Also, adjusting the hole size and count allows one to tune the rate the tire vents under impact. This can significantly reduce bouncing and effectively makes standard foam act like memory foam without it getting hard in the cold. I also modified my beadlock assembly compression jig so I can do tire swaps without taking the wheel hub off. Nothing special but I'll post a pic later. J |

| Rear 6mm Axles E4340 AMS2301
Finally had a little time over the holidays to make a couple of prototype sets of rear axles. One set to run/test without hardening or treating and a second to be treated. As with all my parts they took a mountain of work to get right. Several went into the junk bin. My goals for these were: actually straight, high quality alloy, maximal diameter the full depth of the hub nut to prevent wobble, press fit pin hole centered and perpendicular to the axle for no wobble, polished bearing seat for snug press fit, no groove or E clip, no shims required, radius transition on the spade to prevent shearing and full cut undamaged threads. They weigh up to 0.5-1g more each than available versions and could be lightened. I have not driven on them yet but I do like the fact that my rear wheels no longer wobble and spin concentric to the axle. The first pic includes a popular axle for comparison. I came up with a simple way to gravity deliver cutting oil. The little aluminum disc on the rubber tubing is a grub screw valve i made to control flow. It works well. The seond to the last pic is of mine vs two vendor versions and the last if of one complete set. Time to get testing. See you on course. J |

| Re: Skaldiddog's "Progress" Your kidding right? Lol. Common man it just ain't fair! Those are awesome and I really like the taper design for the bearing. I'm pretty sure that signature of your has come true. Oh and can I have the axles you threw in the bin? |

Hey,very nice work. My first axles also had that tapered design on the lockerside. During time i got some slop of the axle, as the locker will widen a bit. Actually i use a straight cut...no slop after some months of use.On my last set i lathed the inner part of the axle down to 5mm. I lost a lot of weight and it still leaves more materialdiameter than at the milled part of the lockerside, so i think it should work.GreetingsMartin

Hey Martin, I thought about that, good call. My axles bottom out on the spade ends in the locker, not on the radius of the spade flare. The spade bottoms act as a positive stop and the flare doesn't bare any compression load. The flare does just barely press into the slot in the locker just a few thou'. No slop here. Joel |

Wow! Ok Joel I'm what's your addy I'm gonna ship you some Ti rod to make some more. Seriously, nice work. My sets from the reputable axle vendor still had tons of issues, like a huge angle on the hex pin hole, etc. Love the attention at removing slop. |

| Re: Skaldiddog's "Progress" Sorry man. They are blems of long axles that I can convert to shorts if need be. Gotta keep 'em. If I don't bend them between now and then. Thanks 4X. I was wondering if I was the only one with vendor axles that had the pin hole drilled at a serious angle. For the longest time I could never pin down why my wheels wobbled so. All of this after I got a replacement set that were not too warped to fit into my axle tubes! |

I've got a set of rear shafts that have the same issue with the pin causing the wheel on one side to wobble horribly...took me a while to figure that out too!

Ive been waiting on Ti to make some axles myself because of the same wheel wobble issue, I have the rear wheels nuts come loose all the time too and I'm thinking it's the poorly drilled holes.. Nice work btw  |
