So I somehow traipsed into your Wraith build and was amazed by your custom parts engineered and machined as-needed. So I figured I'd read your Berg Build. I'm mightily impressed by this thread.

I'm a scale guy... the fun is in the building and modeling for me. I actual run my rigs very little. For that reason the competition rock crawlers have interested me very little. However, this thread has completely changed my views. You have used your quest for the best crawler to keep building and keep creating and keep problem solving. You run your rig, and compete with it, and that's the juice that keeps you tinkering and building. Breaking in tires, cutting your own tire sizes, testing out multiple motors, heat sinks for your ESC's, even the smallest little change such as the conical shapes tapering your links to your rod ends all are in a quest for better performance. This thread is pure man-and-machine and the pursuit of perfection.

I've taken three things away from this thread:
1. I need to run my rigs more.
2. I really want a mill or at least a lathe to start tinkering with.
3. I'm aching for a hamburger.

I hope I'm not the only guy inspired by this build thread.

Thanks a bunch from another guy named Joel.

Thanks for the kind words Joel. I'm happy to have inspired you to think outside of the box and not get parts from one. Get a small lathe/mill and play with it if you can. So much fun to be able to hold in your hands what had been in your mind only hours before. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestion for me. I've always wanted to visit Abu Dhabi. Maybe we can crawl one day as the sun is going down.

Thanks again.

Default I'll not dilute my Wife's thread with dietary distractions...

...so it goes here.

Have you ever seen prime flap steak (for carne asada) look so heavenly amazing? I've never seen marbling like this. It was incredible and gone fast.

Default Gordini Mill

I saw my mill on NBCSN the other night. Dakar Stage 9? (post marathon) in one of Robby Gordon's support trucks. Can't beat the functionality. Etch a Sketch at high altitude.

Default "New" cool running HH BR Minis

I just grabbed a couple sets of the newer BR Minis. Per John they run cooler than the old ones. The boards are visibly different (pics later). Admittedly I'm not up on all of the info out there so please feel free to chime in or add links if this is all old news and there is data out there already. I'll mount them up Sat and give them a spin in the 90F SoCal heat. I would have done it last night but got distracted by a battery in the mail yesterday...

Finally finished converting my Slash44 into a true drift missile last night. Dumped the MMM, Neu1512/1y(4P/12S) 3S for Tekin TT2315, CC cap pack and Max Amps 4000 4s brick. Holy farking drift machine. I love listening to the stock hard BFGs bark and squeal in pain. Gear down volt up is they key to happiness...all runs cool, except for the tires and it's faster than I want it to be.

Gotta get the fast out of my system so I can go slow.

Default Old vs New HH Mini ESC's

This is what the look like side by side. Aside from board components, they differ in that the new one is coated with a thicker layer of something magic and the spot where the wires are soldered to the board is covered in a nice glob of clear goo. This should help keep the wires in place I guess.

Performance. The new ones definitely run cooler (55F per JRH) under no load. Under load they heat up to the expected level but they cool back down quickly during a pack change. Regardless of the new design I still put heat sinks on them and they definitely do dump heat into them and the skid plate as well. Cool electronics are happy electronics. You may also have to fiddle with you neutral trim to get them to bind. Other than that they perform like they should but run a lot cooler. Thanks JRH!

J

Bored yet EP? I thought so. Just for you, dinner last night. Now stop staring and get back to work.

Default Tire Jig Diet

I started packing last night for BOTW15 and yet again ran into the issue of traveling with my brick of a tire jig. Time for a diet. Yes, there is a little chatter/vibration.

Hitting the skies early tomorrow AM. Bringing rain gear.
