Ok, time for an update on my 2.0! I put the truck through some torture at the Monster Showdown which was an absolutely awesome and well run event! I got to comp with a lot of guys I already know and met a lot of great people I've never had the chance to meet or comp with. With this only being the second comp for the new truck I realized right from the first course I had some set up changes that need to be made. I had the chance to talk with Jake quite a bit about set up for this chassis and got to look at his 2.0. I also talked quite a bit with Robbob and had a room mate for the weekend who also knows a thing or two about crawlering!!!.... My biggest issue seemed to be my suspension set up and running shocks that were just too long for this chassis so as soon as I got home it was back to the drawing board. I decided to give some SCX shocks a try. They seem to have a lot more adjustability as far as pre load and internal/external limiting. I found a brand new set on eBay for $14 and then ordered cups, springs, machined Pistons, and collars from Rcbros and we are off and running!!

So here are the basic stock shocks as I received them and here they are after building with green slime, 3 o rings and the Rcbros goods

Of course with changing to a shorter shock meant that I needed to do some rear upper link work as well. Here is a pic with the straight rear uppers I've been running with my big bores that just won't clear with the SCX shock
Here are the new 1/8th ti links I made up with the necessary bends to clear everything nicely

A pic with the new links installed

I also had my front axle clocked up way too high and Troy noticed I had kind of an awkward angle that my lower links were coming in to the axles so I adjusted my shock/link mount on the front and rear axle to bring those links down to a better position

Of course with moving the mounts down meant I had to re work my battery mount which wasn't too bad thankfully, I just had to drill one hole in the mount plate and add a spacer under the screw closest to the tire. Now with everything back together I have great clearance for the links on the front and rear, and the shocks feel really smooth and the truck has a much better ride height. I am running 3.4" shocks on the front and 3.25" shocks on the rear. Now time to get it on the rocks for some testing before next Sunday's comp.

That's looking much better

Do your rear shocks bind at the upper mount at all? It looks like they might with that angle. You want to be able to spin the shocks freely at full flex going either direction.

Now that I look at it, the shocks move freely until exactly fully compressed. I would really like to avoid moving the mounts in at the axle, do you think a small spacer where the shock mounts at the chassis would work?

2mm each side - start there

Match the front, keep it symetrical

You could use a bent rodend on the bottom of your shocks like Dlux.
These are the ones I am using
M3 Plastic Bent Rod Ends w/ Axial Width Balls (20x)

Thanks Josh, I actually have some of those, I may give that a try.

Got 3 packs through the truck after work tonight and what a difference these changes have made. The truck climbs and descends great, it sidehills great and is very stable. The only negative I can see is that I lost a little bit of clearance on break overs but the positives far outweigh that! I may add a heavier weight oil in the rear shocks to slow them down a little but other than that it's staying the way it is!

It's no fun if you aren't fixing your wheelbase at the tech table at a big comp :p
