looking at buying a sawback, need some guidance

Tires and drive shafts are probably going to be the first two things you'll want to upgrade, and in my opinion a 35T motor on 2s is the perfect setup for the Sawback. Don't buy into all the aluminum upgrades, unless you just want the bling. Gmade plastic is awesome. My tired old Sawback is still all original parts, minus drive shafts and cv's that were put in when built.
