Default looking at buying a sawback, need some guidance

Hey guys,

So i'm not super experienced with this stuff. I've had an axial wraith and i have an AX10 and losi night crawler right now.

The AX10 i've kind of been toying with and i realized that everything i want to do is what you'd do with a scale crawler...

(sorry about the messy counter, kids...)

anyway, i was thinking about grabbing a sawback (since i'm a bit of a jeep nut) and doing a build like my 46

Anyway, i'd like to get into this as budget friendly as i can. I don't need all the aluminum hop up pieces and what not. But i would like to build something neat.

i have a decent steering servo off my AX10, as well as a 55t and 27t axial brushed motor both almost brand new.

I have a pile of 2s lipos sitting here for the other crawlers and the slash.

So that leaves me with a few questions.

1. i'm seeing variances on different sawbacks online. the Local hobby shop only had 1 kit and the guy didn't know much about them. Is there a preferred model/kit to buy?

2. any suggestions on a budget friendly ESC/reciever?

3. can i use my brushed motors that i already have just to get me going?

4. any reason i can't use a traxxas or axial radio? or is there a nice budget universal one?

I know this hobby is pricey. I'm not afraid of spending $. But i'd like to keep it reasonable. it won't be a crawler, just something to drive around with the kids when they play with the other ones. and maybe something i can scale similarly to my old 46.

Thanks guys.

The Sawback sport is nice little kit. Recommended over the standard version. Painted white with some TSL's and some body trimming, it would look very similar to your 1:1

Just finished mine:

I don't own one.. yet so I'm not the best of sources. It does have buckets but not the LEDs.
When I purchase one, I will use Axial AE5 esc and spectrum RC4WD 4 channel radio/receiver

You can pick up a GT3B for under 40 bucks on eBay, and extra 3 channel receivers are about $6 shipped from China. Buy a hand full of receivers and run the whole fleet with one transmitter
Tires and drive shafts are probably going to be the first two things you'll want to upgrade, and in my opinion a 35T motor on 2s is the perfect setup for the Sawback. Don't buy into all the aluminum upgrades, unless you just want the bling. Gmade plastic is awesome. My tired old Sawback is still all original parts, minus drive shafts and cv's that were put in when built.
When you get your new ride, read through some of the threads on here and find some of the popular mod's people are doing. Good luck and enjoy your new ride
Love the 46! It's in the style of my Sawback bodied Wraith

I myself have the sawback sport edition and it seems like the better choice to me. It comes with all the light buckets plus the roll bar with 5 bucket light bar that the other version does not. The sport also comes with some better looking beadlock wheels in my opinion.

So far I have the gmade accessories to be reasonably priced. I have done the cms kit, cva's, junfac metal sliders, rc4wd mud thrasher tires.
