Here are the top finalists for the world crawler buildoff. They are being displayed in no particular order. The time to vote is now. The polls will be open for 5 days (from 10/3/5). Choose your vote wisely as you cannot change it, and you can only vote 1 time. The winner shall recieve: From RCROCKGEAR one set of clobuster adjustable motormounts, and one set of clodbuster difflocks. From RC4WD and Krod_Clod one set of stainless steel clodbuster axles. From RCCrawler one green star, (or a 1 year extention on your current star) The entire top 9 entrants will recieve RCCrawler.com tshirts Now onto the pictures, here is #1 RCC Username: Esteban86K5 Vehicle name: Mini Skinny Wheelbase: 17.5" Trackwidth: 13" Center ground clearance: 3.75" Under diff clearance: 3.5" Motor: Magnetic Mayhem Tranny: E-maxx Wheels: Narrowed Maximizer Beadlocks Tires: LST's Axles: Hybrid E-maxx Chassis: Custom tuber Esteban Solano Last edited by jason; 10-03-2005 at 10:53 PM. |

#2... RCCNAME: Sparky J VEHICAL NAME: Cant stop this WHEELBASE: 18" TRACKWIDTH: 16" CENTER GROUND CLEARANCE: 5.75" and 10.25" top of body UNDER DIFF: 2-7/8" MOTORS: Duel Eagle lathes mated to twin gd600's TRANNY: Customized twin force WHEELS: Narrowed 23mm Cheyannes TIRES: Moab 40's AXLES: Custom twin force CHASSIS: Custom hand bent Now keep in mind that this rig was built for the wife's so called interest in crawling, hense the proline Ford Ex body. This rig was at one time a twin force but was soon stripped of that. None of the stock mounting hardware that ounce held this together remains. The tranny has been modified, repositioned and centered in the belly pan so that it could handle duel lathe motors and twin Gd 600's. Motors are running 15t pinions and 18t in the Gd 600's. Dont now what kind of tourqe that is but its alot. The axles have custom RCALLOY's 4" outboard shafts whitch are the most bomb proof I could find. The diff's are now centered to match the tranny and are connected with modified Revo shafts. Chassis was all hand bent and self tapped to ensure strenth out of 1/4" alluminum. A Hightec 945mg in the front and 645mg in the rear steer the narrowed moabs on 23mm cheyennes. Custom 14mm to 23mm addapters were custom made from BENDER MACHINE to mount these wheels. I want to say thanks to everyone that made this contest happen and to RCALLOYS for an awsome product and to BENDER MACHINE for the same. #3... RCC Username: Cole82 Vehicle name:Simple Clod Wheelbase:15.7/8 Trackwidth:14.1/4 Center ground clearance:3 Under diff clearance:2.1/8 Motor:CRC lathe Tranny:Clod Wheels:Narrow Clod Tires:Clod Axles:Locked Clod Chassis:Custom made Tube The Idea was to make a simple crawler. With a suspension design that isn't very common. A one link with a panhard bar was used. For add durability 5/16" heim joints were added to the 1/2" steel links. The simple clod worked great and made for some good fun. Thank you RCCRAWLER everyone on the board helped. Last edited by jason; 09-30-2005 at 11:27 AM. |

#4... RCC Username: CSR Vehicle name: "Crown" Wheelbase: 12.5" Trackwidth: 12" Center ground clearance: 3-5/8" Under diff clearance: 1-1/4" Motor: Integy 55T's Tranny: Clod with 13T pinions Wheels: Stampede rear wheels, dyed black Tires: Proline Masher2K's Axles: Clod, locked and shaved Chassis: Homemade aluminum I had to throw out my plans to build a rig with lots of custom fab work due to time constraints. 12-hour shifts, kids in dance class and sports, wife with a busted up foot, etc. The Build-Off rig plans had to be simplified. Durability became my focus. This is my 5 year old son's first r/c. It had to be tough enough to withstand full throttle encounters with walls, lawn furniture, etc. I also plan to borrow it some to run in 2.2" Class competitions, so it had to perform decent. Also wanted it to look cool. So, durable, competitive, cool...... one out of three's not bad. It's tough! The other competitors obliously put a lot of time into their rigs. I know my rig won't win, didn't expect to make the final round. But, I had fun building it and my son and I have lots of fun driving it. So when my rig gets blown away by these other cool rigs, it won't be a total loss. Last edited by jason; 09-30-2005 at 11:25 AM. |

#5... RCC Username: HULK Vehicle name: Dibble's Rig Wheelbase: 17" Trackwidth: 14" Center ground clearance: 3-3/4" Under diff clearance: 2" Motor: 2 lathes Tranny: locked Emaxx Wheels: Maxx wheels, dont recall what the name was Tires: Cut, shut, hacked, glued, ground, sliced, beaten, jumbo swamp dawgs Axles: TXT Chassis: Tube What makes my rig different than everyone elses? I guess it would be scale realism. Mine was made based off a real 1:1 truck owned by Dan Dibble. The challenge in my build was to make all the cool factors on the real rig into a reality on the mini rig. Hence the mini diamond plate body panels, hood, cargo area, the scale seats, the cut up wheels, the tube work, the grab handles, and then trying to make all that work with RC parts. I chose this rig specifically to emulate since it has rockwell axles, and big swampers, both of which I could emulate with TXT axles and swamp dawg tires. It was a challenge getting all the tranny, motors, shafts, seats, battery, and electrics in there! One of the other cool factors for me are the dual rate springs on the coilovers. They are now infinitely adjustable to fine tune for the weight of the rig. Its a sweet little rig that performs with locked axles, low gears, torquey motors, front and rear steer, and looks good doing it! Last edited by jason; 09-30-2005 at 11:17 AM. |

#6... RCC Username:TwistedXT Vehicle name:Tubby Wheelbase:15" Trackwidth:15" Center ground clearance:5.25" Under diff clearance:2.5" Motor:stock 540 Tamiya Can Tranny:Txt-1 with a GD 600 Wheels:Stock TXT rims narrowed 1/2 inch Tires:Stock cheveron tires shaved to my liking Axles:Stock txt axles with Revo Shafts Chassis:Tubed. I mounted a 1/4 scale servo in the chassis using a cantilever style steering setup to free up room on the axle. The steering has also been relocated to behind the front axle to increase clearance. I have also moved the suspensions rotational pivit point to cancel out the shafties natorious tourque twist. It's currently running 2 batteries, 1 to the servo and 1 to the motor. A Novak servo regulator supplies the servo with an uninterupted 6.0V of power pushing @ 350 oz of torque. Last edited by jason; 10-03-2005 at 12:19 PM. |

#7... RCC Username: SVEN Vehicle name: NLS (no-link stick) Wheelbase: 16 inches Trackwidth: 14 1/2 inches Center ground clearance: 5 1/2 inches Under diff clearance: 2 inches Motor: 2 Integy Lathe motors Tranny: clod Wheels: BFT Tires: Cut BFT Axles: Inet rc clod axles Chassis: Custom no-link stick Some more specs: Behind the Axle steering Independant front and rear steering Tekin Rebel 2 (2) HS-645mg servos 8 tooth pinions Inetrc differential lockers Novak Xxtra reciever JR XR3 radio Ace's wheel adapters Proline Rock Pleazer body The main feature that sets this crawler apart from most others is the no-link design. The first stick chassis I built (before the build off) was pretty much a typical stick design, and I was always having trouble with the links getting in the way of both the servos and the links. So, I built this crawler with the main goal to use 2 hiem joints in place of a typical stick's single hiem and 4 links. The end result turned out even better than I had expected. There is no binding at all in the suspension, no links to get in the way of the servos, and I don't have to worry about breaking/stripping rod ends anymore. Thanks for hosting this build-off, I had a lot of fun building my truck. -Steven Kautz (SVEN) Last edited by jason; 09-30-2005 at 11:29 AM. |

#8... RCC Username: rcmfmaxxman Vehicle name: TLT Inferno Wheelbase: 12.25" Trackwidth: 7" from hex to hex and 10" from tire to tire Center ground clearance: 3.5" Under diff clearance: 1.5 inches Motor: Integy Lathe motor (with ball bearings) Tranny: pede on a diet with an aluminum motor plate Wheels: pede fronts single narrowed Tires: moabs with half foams Axles: tlt Chassis: custom aluminum tube chassis with a aluminum center plate. Other: traxxas tq radio (reciever water proofed) novak rooster esc Hitec 645mg servo (water proofed) 6 cell 2/3 A saddle pack mounted on front axle 2.5 maxx shafts high clearance rear links 40/60 links (actually more like 45/55) All diffs are locked by relocating internal gears it weighs about 3-3.5 lbs. This truck is a fun little truck that can take a beating yet is extremely light and is very very competitive. The very first comp i took it to was its first time on the rocks and my first time at that and it took 4th place out of 12. I was very impressed with how well it came out. Its COG is super low and all the weight is below the tops of the tires (except the esc for wet reasons) It climbs amazingly and IMO looks really cool. I really didn't think it would make it to the finalists though but i knew i would be kicking myself if i didn't enter anything. Thanks for choosing me for the top 9. I am honored to have even gotten it this far. If i'm not picked for 1st place. Its no big deal cause i can always just prove its abilities at the ORCRC comps! My next truck (my original build off idea) will blow everyones minds... other pics: Last edited by jason; 10-03-2005 at 08:22 PM. |

#9... RCC Username: Xtreme RC Vehicle name: The Eliminator Wheelbase: 17.25" Trackwidth: 15.25" Center ground clearance: 5.5" Under diff clearance: 2.25" Motor: 55t integy lathes Tranny: N/A Wheels: 40 series velocity 6 Tires: moabs Axles: clod with JPS axle tubes, knuckles & adapters. Chassis: custom Tuber/Stick I would first like to say that i bought 90% of what is on my truck once the build off started. From the JPS axles to the wheels and tires, servos, and super rooster. The only thing i did not purchase was the radio and receiver and lithium batteries that i use. I already had those items. I have had a stick chassis before from Kevin that i purchased and absolutely loved it. But i ended up trading it for a dirt bike. Anyhow i have always wanted and loved the look of tube chassis. So once the build off started i decided i would build another stick chassis myself but i would also TRY and build a tube chassis which i have never done before and attach it to the stick chassis some how. I wanted the performance of a stick but the looks of a tuber. So my project started. I bought the axles from a guy off RCC. These axles are locked with JB weld and have JPS aluminum axle tubes, knuckles and jps clod to emaxx adapters. Then i went and bought all the stuff to start the stick and the tuber. I liked the 16" wheelbase of my original stick but wanted something a little longer. So my wheelbase on this rig is right at 17.25". So i built the stick truck and added all the electrics to it. I wanted to be able to run the stick as it is in comps and stuff but then easily attach the tube chassis that i was going to build for playing around and showing off. So that was my goal. As i started to build the tube chassis i wanted to keep it as light as possible and NARROW. That way it would NOT hurt the COG to terribly bad. Since i am not much of a welder i decided to build the chassis out of brass tubing and solder it together using some flux to help the solder adhere to the brass. And it worked great. I honestly believe the chassis is nice and strong and will take some abuse. Only time will tell though. I will be honest and tell you that i had a heck of a time getting started on the tube chassis. My first couple of bends looked like crap. I kept practicing and got alittle better. (My hat goes off to those who build these insane tube chassis. Not everyone can build these and make them look good. Tube chassis are worth every penny that the guys charge for them. IT IS AN ART) Anyhow i got it built and think it came out pretty good. I tried to make it look as scale as possible on the 17" wheelbase. There are only three screws holding the tube chassis to the stick chassis so it can be removed at any time. Now for the rest. Just like most everyone else i am running lathe motors with 9 tooth pinions and TTR adjustable motor mounts. I am running a super rooster and a Kokam 11.1v lithium that i love. This battery gives me the extra wheelspeed that i like when crawling that you don't get out of a 6 cell. My wheels and tires as you can tell are 40series velocity 6 rims and moab tires. Absolutely the best crawling tire for the Green River in Rochester, KY. Well that is about it for my rig. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to read this build up and check out my pictures. PLEASE VOTE FOR ME. LOL. Seriously though, a big thanks also goes out to Digler for starting this up and Jason & RCC for giving us a great site to show off our work and to all the vendors the generously donated prizes for the winner. Thanks David (Xtreme RC) Last edited by jason; 09-30-2005 at 11:31 AM. |

Some of those got some pretty cool ideas, but some of the others seem kinda weak for finalist. Is that just me or are you others guys tinking the same thing..... I also wasn't expecting to see "OEM CLOD" tires on any of the finalists. And some of those pictures SUCK for trying to show off the vehicle.....

You guys are slacking. Anyone else notice something missing? [Jason] Dirk and I talked. The 10 best will be picked, and posted into a thread, monday or tuesday. You will all have one week to vote for your favorite one. That SINGLE vehicle will be declaired the winner. [/Jason] |

I did notice that there was only 9 but I figured after I seen them, maybe that was all the good ones worthy of the top finalists...... And don't take this as me complaining, because I didn't enter anything, so it doesn't really matter to me who entered what and even how wins. But when the voting does start, I know I've already got my vote narrowed down to two...... |
