Nice work Glass, did you use rc18 bearings with the stubs? Those portals are the chit, I would like more info if you get a chance. Also, how do the monsters mount up? RC18 motor mounts maybe? That tube work looks awesome. That's really a mean machine, I love it! You got skills but need a better camera.

Lt. Dan, I used a tapered bearing that I machined into the knuckle that spins the stub shaft, then I chucked up the axle shafts in the lathe and removed 2.5mm off the shafts and appr. .5mm off the ball that was just some of the work to get these portals to work. If you want something a little easier on a earlier nylint axle project I had a stub shaft from a Tamiya Boomerang fit perfectly in the knuckle it even fit the nylint ball on the end of the axle shaft.I don't believe boomerang is made any more, but I think they use these stub shafts in a lot of their new retro cars. Yeah I wish I had a better camera than my sidekick I'll try to get better picks.

Oh yeah the monster fit into the nylint planetaries with a little twisting back and forth. You put them in without the white spacer ring and you also have to grind some of the trinitys shaft down to the top of the nylint pinion gear. Hope that made sense.

The motor swap sounds very interesting. Is it a higher RPM motor or just more torque? I stall out the stock motors constantly, so this sounds like a good upgrade for me.

This thing is cooler in person than in the pics. Thats for sure. Those portals looked awesome the other day.

Whats lame is hobby town didn't give me my money back, despite a receipt showing I paid cash I plan to order some imex tires through them, that way if I don't like them/use them I can return them again

Thanks PWT, yeah Hobbytowns return policy is bogus sucks they have monopoly here in Fort Collins. You need to bring your crawler up to the tooth and check out the course in my backyard. Let me know.

Oh, you have a lathe and I don't. I am using Tamiya Blackfoot stubs with MIP wheel adapters and no bearings. It works well but not nearly as refined as yours.

Makes perfect sense, and sounds awesome.

Are those monsters 280 sized?
I would like to try a pair of AE stock 280's.

Thanks

Yes they are 280 size and their rpm's are a lot noticebly faster (needed more rpm's with the portals for an added boost) of course at $25 a piece it costs more than the truck for two. I'm sure the stock AE motor is faster and stronger than the stock Nylint. There are a lot of mini size motors coming out due to the mini explosion going on. I'd be cautious about some of the high rpm motors blowing apart the nylint gears (the portals relieve a lot of stress on the planiteries)
