Delay reverse

Hey. So I was going through my parents loft and found my old RC from 20 years ago! Didn't think it would still work but i charged the battery up and off I went.

However finding something quite annoying because when I go forwards and then instantly go backwards it has a 3 second or so delay then goes. Where as if i go backwards then slam on forwards it does it instantly with a bit of wheel spin.

It's been 20 years so I cant remember anything about these. I'm sure it never used to do this as I used to go to track days with it and it would have annoyed the hell out of me. I've attached pics of the set up as like i said no clue on the parts anymore.

That's how they work, that or no reverse at all. Plenty of warnings in the manuals not to roll backward and slam forward, old plastic tranny gears won't take that for long.

Yup, I had that with some cheap ebay brushed ESCs, which are probably copies of 20 year old designs

Slightly late to the topic but... generally this function is designed to allow the brake function of the speed control a moment to work. It is rather hard on a car to slow down by throwing it into reverse

The only ones with actual instant forward to reverse I know of is very cheap esc's and crawler esc's.
