Actually I'm using a stock axial trans for my willy's and holding way better than the R2 tran I used to have and its nice and quiet. And btw I use the heck out of my willys. Yea dave jus go with the axial my motor just stays nice and warm while my motor with the r2 gets soo hot

My Axial trans I converted to a transfer case in my Willys is holding up fine but I stripped the transmissions internals on one the first battery packs trying to climb the steps to get in the garage.

Beautiful rig Zoso. Never fail to impress me. Your rig (and helpful info) is what got me to build mine. I'm using a Axial tranny and haven't had any problems. Though my rig is really loud. Not sure if that's the tranny or the axles. I don't really mind it cuz the 1:1 Willy was pretty loud too. lol. Are you guys gonna have a Willys meet anytime soon? Would like to bring mine out.

Man, this thing is most awesome! I want to start building one of these myself, If I can find a body.
I have a question, where do you run the battery from? Do you have room for a bigger party pack like 3300mah, or do you guys run a smaller size pack?

Very entertaining video production (I enjoyed the music. Was that Kyuss? Sounds like them...)

I have got to build one of these 1:6th scale Jeeps one day, they look like they're so much fun to drive. Bigger = more realistic performance I think.

Obviously a Hasbro Jeep of the newer variety is one valid starting point. How much better/worse is a 1:6th Dragon model kit as far as strength of material, ability to take abuse, etc.??

Ordering up a NIB Dragon model kit seems about on par with winning an ebay auction for a decent Hasbro unit dollar-wise (appox. 80 to 100 bucks) The detail has got to be better, but if it's not strong enough for RC conversion then the detail is not really worth the extra $$...

The things that take the most abuse are the links, frame and suspension
....and with the dragon you will need to fabricate and frame chassis
so you can make it as strong as you like.

The hasbro jeep has a removeable plastic frame chassis that makes it
easy to build ...it's not that strong.... but can be beefed up!

Thanks ZoSo. I enjoy the videos you guys make, several of these large Jeeps wheeling together is quite a sight. Some of the shots from a distance look very realistic.

I'm starting to lean toward the Dragon model kit since building a custom chassis to fit a particular body is definitely within my wheelhouse. It looks like its worth it for the extra detail.

It seems like when a 2001 in good condition shows up on Ebay, it is always fought over by several different bidders (how many of you guys on this forum are watching the same ones I am right now?) a Dragon kit is simply a purchase from Tower later in the month (hopefully, if they get restocked when they say they are)

FWIW, you can get some good used deals. I picked mine up with all kinds of goodies (t-case, axles, trans, etc.) for a very reasonable sum from someone here on RCC. IIRC, though, it seems $75 or so could buy a good example from the bay. Is that not the case any longer?

But I wouldn't think a Dragon would be required for good detail. I've been very impressed with my Hasbro. Keep in mind that the older Hasbros had much less detail so I focused more on the newer model. You may already know this, but just in case you didn't I figured I'd mention it.
