So the Axles are all metal, assuming the gears are as well.. But the first thing that i had to "fix" were the transmission outputs to the axles. I havent taken apart the transmission to see how it all goes together inside but i know that those are my weak points.. Wondering if these are the "Upgrades"

fleaBay is then best option. Redcat axles come as tear steer only.

Got mine built today. Still need ESC and radio gear. No sure I have a battery small enough either!

Ordered a red one since I figured Id build a red one. Last night I decided it needed to be white. Yup.... its pink.

Re: WPL C14

For anyone thinking about a small esc I got a couple of the cheapie esc’s TooOldForThis mentioned and they work great for this truck(thanks for the tip!). I tucked a cheapie small orange 2.4 receiver and 800mh lipo under the tool box. Works great!

Someone asked and the kit and RTR do come with different motors, larger one in the kit. 180 instead of 130 maybe?

Anyone know what year Toyota this is? 1982?

So I didn't really have the "right" hardware to make this work and got tired of waiting. Also, my rc budget is basically non-existent so I decided to get creative/ghetto fabulous.

used pieces of hanger for links: https://i.imgur.com/6r3oUN7.jpg?3

I originally had a crazy motor mount setup made out of whatever I could find. yes, those are L-brackets: https://i.imgur.com/DBDSqUk.jpg?1

the axle angles were good but the bolts sticking out of the bottom were gone. my drill recently died and I don't have a vice or hacksaw. I live in a condo so my work space is pretty, restricted, I guess:

https://i.imgur.com/K532zud.jpg?1

so I decided that when all else fails, zip ties:

https://i.imgur.com/JJZcFho.jpg?1

and yes, that is a brushless motor. because if it's going to be ridiculous and terrible, why not also make it fun?

one more look:

https://i.imgur.com/mtksw5Y.jpg?1

for this reason I have decided to call this build "Zippy".

I hid the battery under the hood, sandwiched between the frame and the body. at this point I just wanted to see my frankenstein work so I zip-tied the electronics on the back:

https://i.imgur.com/Q6JyWpT.jpg?1

I guess my links weren't even/it is a terrible system so we had a bit of lean in the front end:

https://i.imgur.com/fHTjrcq.jpg?1

okay, a lot of lean:

https://i.imgur.com/dhM2ha0.jpg?1

and an undershot of the rear end:

https://i.imgur.com/e47c6fl.jpg?1

here are two crappy videos I shot before work. I'll try to get an outdoor video soon. also for some reason there seems to be a really long pause between forwards and backwards. I assume it's because it's a brushless motor but I'm not too sure.

Video 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e28g...ature=youtu.be

Video 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5yx...ature=youtu.be

all in all it's pretty fun but I don't know if I want to put the (minimal, I know) money into doing it right. I think I'll probably just put the stock slickrock back together and throw it on ebay with the C14 parts to raise money towards a mega truck/monster truck project that I can do right.

Re: WPL C14

haha thanks guys. oh yeah, I had to make the super ghetto links because the slickrock comes with a 3-link setup that couldn't transfer over because it was a molded plastic piece that was too wide to attach to the WPL frame. that's why I had to just bend hangers and put them around screws on the axles that were actually just screwed into the servo mount's holes.

Back one page.

It got a little tricky. On each side of the transfer case is an m3 bolt where I bolted the battery tray to the floor pan. I had to drill a hole to do this but there is a support/standoff on the other side it makes up in. This stiffened it up a lot. Once it all is squared away I think I’ll two part epoxy this individual pieces as a single unibody.

I still need to thread and attach the upper links, fab a steering link, wire the motor and ESC, and then it’ll be ready. LOL. It’s so cute. If there was only a reasonably good source of axles for this scale.
