So I got a few parts in from RPP, Servo City, and Tower, enough to keep me going for awhile.. Couldn't resist starting on the winch.. I'm using a Hitec 5645 with 164.2ozs. Running a 20T drive gear on the servo to a 72T spur will give me a 3.6:1 reduction and should bump it up to 591.12oz. Hopefully that will be enough to drag out whatever I want.. Once I figured out where and how I wanted it to sit I broke out the delrin and aluminum. Spool... Kinda weird just by it's self. Mount system supported by two 5x10mm flange bearings. It's kinda large but I have plenty of room to hide it and I was looking for strength over size. I built a few of these before using only pinion gears and it's amazing the amount of load they endure, enough to flex .250" delrin and strip the pinions.. Location, although I'm wanting to finish the running gear before final fitment. I still need to mod the servo but debating on using one of the 5955 I have, Hmmm 1,198ozs of winching power.. All the cab light buckets are next, 2 headlight and 7 running lights so I can at least finish off the cab and feel like I'm making real progress.

'bout time someone started making them, the last few i did i had to ream a pinion and press it on the servo, not the best operation but they held up fine. If you wanted to dump $160.00 they have one that will pull over 4,000ozs Cool stuff

Never would have thought to take a globe liner and turn it into a hemtt style rig, good thinking.I have an 8x8 hemtt in the process of a makeover, what thickness did you use on the front plate shield? I found a plastic supplier that sells all kinds of different thicknesses of styrene in 4x8 sheets real cheap, the 1.5 mm is only $23 so will be stocking up on different thicknesses for the hemtt.

I used .125" (3.17mm) for the front plate. A local hobby shop here sells the styrene in 2x4 sheets (.040 is $5.30 a sheet and the .125 is $15.00 a sheet) never even thought of calling my delrin supplier, pretty sure they sell it too. Quote:

I was so possessed yesterday that I forgot to check the mail.. Woo Hoo!! my GCM tcase arrived.. Since they come unassembled the first thing I did was drill the shafts for the yoke pins. All the axle pinions are drill so I figured why not secure the rest. This is something I wouldn't recommend if you don't have the right tooling as these are hardened shafts and a PITA to drill. Luckily I had some carbide drill bits handy. Overall fit was great, shafts are tight to bearings and the bearings fit snugly in the case. The case it'self fits together so good you'd think it was machined as one piece then cut in two. Great work guys All assembled and waiting on the GRU & motor for placement. You know it's going to be an easy install when the tcase is narrower then the inside of the chassis. NICE!!!! Made up the running/marker lights using a piece of "I" beam and capping the ends off. All the lenses were cut from the Axial light bucket set. Side markers lenses were made from the larger rectangle lens, trimmed done and curved with a heat gun. Also finished off the hubs, these are made by RC Channel and came from RPP In an earlier post I mention cutting them down, about .200" so they didn't sit outside the wheels. Now I glued the wheel nuts in using JB Weld, just enough to fill up the flats on the nut. Here's the best part, even though they are 8 sided, they fit quite nice in a 11mm socket for install!! Love it when things work out.. Now what would a scale build be without a driver? He's not an happy sumbitch, Apparently he thinks I'm taking to long on the build... |
